The Opportunity

We’re looking for experienced, compassionate Advanced Practice Providers to join our Virtual Urgent Care team.

This is more than providing care through a screen. Our Virtual Urgent Care providers are an integrated part of ConvenientMD’s broader urgent care network, helping patients access the right care at the right time while supporting our clinic teams across the region.

You’ll evaluate and treat patients presenting with a wide range of acute concerns, use strong clinical judgment to determine what can safely be managed virtually, and recognize when a patient needs in-person or higher-level care.

Because virtual medicine requires providers to make thoughtful decisions without all the tools available during an in-person examination, success in this role requires excellent history-taking, strong communication, sound clinical judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to work efficiently without sacrificing quality.

Providers licensed in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and/or Maine are encouraged to apply.

Full-time, part-time, and per diem Virtual Urgent Care opportunities are currently available to candidates who live in-market (MA, NH, ME).

We are also actively seeking providers in the Bangor, Maine area who are interested in a full-time hybrid model combining two onsite urgent care shifts with one Virtual Urgent Care shift from home each week.

As our Virtual Urgent Care program continues to grow, additional hybrid opportunities may become available in other ConvenientMD markets.

Your Impact

As a Virtual Urgent Care provider, you will:

Evaluate and treat patients presenting with a broad range of acute illnesses, injuries, and concerns through telemedicine.
Use focused history-taking, virtual assessment, available clinical information, and evidence-based judgment to develop appropriate treatment plans.
Recognize clinical red flags and determine when a patient's needs extend beyond what can safely or effectively be managed through virtual care.
Direct patients to in-person urgent care, emergency care, primary care, or another appropriate level of care when additional evaluation is needed.
Provide clear patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, follow-up recommendations, and symptoms that should prompt additional evaluation.
Build trust and connection with patients through thoughtful, compassionate communication—even when the appropriate outcome of a visit is escalation rather than virtual treatment.
Partner with our clinic-based teams to support patient access and help balance demand across ConvenientMD's urgent care network.
Review available laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic information when relevant to patient evaluation and treatment.
Maintain accurate, timely, concise, and clinically appropriate documentation in our electronic medical record.
Communicate proactively with clinical leadership and colleagues when patient-safety, workflow, or operational concerns arise.
Remain current on evidence-based urgent care practices, telemedicine standards, prescribing guidance, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Contribute to a collaborative clinical culture by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and participating in ongoing learning and improvement.

Who Thrives in Virtual Urgent Care?

Strong Clinical Judgment: You can efficiently assess acute concerns, develop an appropriate differential diagnosis, identify red flags, and create safe, evidence-based treatment plans. You recognize that strong virtual medicine also means knowing when virtual care is no longer the appropriate setting for the patient.

Excellent Virtual Communication: You ask focused questions, listen carefully, establish rapport quickly, and explain your clinical reasoning in a way patients can understand. You can communicate recommendations, limitations, and next steps clearly while helping patients feel heard and cared for.

Comfortable With Ambiguity: You understand the capabilities and limitations of telemedicine and are comfortable making thoughtful decisions when physical examination findings or other information may be limited. You know when you have enough information to proceed and when additional evaluation is necessary.

Efficient Without Sacrificing Quality: You are comfortable working in a fast-moving urgent care environment and can manage patient volume while maintaining thoughtful clinical evaluation, appropriate prescribing, clear patient education, safety-netting, and high-quality documentation.

Collaborative and Accountable: You enjoy being part of a team, even when working remotely. You identify and raise concerns early, communicate directly and respectfully, and are comfortable seeking support or another clinical perspective when needed.

Patient-Centered and Empathetic: You approach patients with curiosity, kindness, and respect. You recognize that the patient experience matters just as much when recommending in-person evaluation as it does when providing treatment virtually.

Technologically Adaptable: You are comfortable navigating electronic medical records, telemedicine technology, diagnostic information, and multiple clinical workflows while keeping your attention focused on the patient.

Connected to Our Care Network: While much of this role is performed virtually, our Virtual Urgent Care providers are part of ConvenientMD’s broader, integrated urgent care network. Candidates must reside within reasonable driving distance of a ConvenientMD clinic or approved market location and be able to participate in occasional onsite training, collaboration, or other in-person requirements as needed.

Qualifications

Education, Licensure & Certification

Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
Current certification through an applicable Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner certifying body
Current, unrestricted clinical licensure
Current DEA registration without restrictions
Current BLS certification
Licensure in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and/or Maine preferred based on current Virtual Urgent Care needs
Able and willing to see patients aged 3 years old and up

Clinical Experience

Clinical experience in urgent care, emergency medicine, or another high-volume acute or ambulatory care setting is strongly preferred.

Candidates should bring a strong foundation in:

Acute-care evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment
Differential diagnosis and clinical decision-making
Recognition of red flags and appropriate escalation of care
Evidence-based prescribing and antimicrobial stewardship
Patient education and safety-netting
Clinical documentation
Applicable telemedicine, prescribing, privacy, and patient-care requirements
HIPAA and other applicable federal and state healthcare regulations

Previous telemedicine experience is welcomed but is not required for candidates who demonstrate strong acute-care judgment, communication skills, and the ability to adapt successfully to virtual practice.

Shift Requirements

Full-Time

Three 12.5-hour shifts per week
Four weekend shifts per month, occurring on either a Saturday or Sunday

Part-Time

Two 12.5-hour shifts per week
Two weekend shifts per month, occurring on either a Saturday or Sunday

Per Diem

One 12.5-hour shift per week
Must provide at least four shifts of availability each month
At least two availability dates must be weekend days
Partial shifts may be available based on operational need after full-shift needs are filled

Current VUC Shift Structure

6:15 AM–6:45 PM (EST): one (1) provider scheduled daily
8:00 AM–8:30 PM (EST): remaining scheduled provider coverage, based on demand
Partial shifts may occasionally be scheduled for per diem providers based on demand and availability.

Full-Time Hybrid – Currently Highlighted in Bangor, Maine

Three shifts per week
Current Bangor model includes two onsite Urgent Care shifts and one Virtual Urgent Care shift from home
Four weekend shifts per month, occurring on either a Saturday or Sunday

Additional hybrid Virtual Urgent Care opportunities may be introduced in other ConvenientMD markets as program needs evolve.
