Assistant Controller

Job description

Start your career in Finance within an international software company where development, technology and AI are at the heart of how we work. Have you recently graduated in Finance, Business Economics or Accountancy and are you ready to take your first professional step? Or have you already gained some initial work experience and are looking for an environment where you can continue to learn and grow? For our Accounting & Control team, we are looking for an Assistant Controller who brings a solid foundation in Finance, is eager to learn and is curious about how technology and AI are changing the finance profession. At Ultimo Group , you will work in an international software organisation with approximately 500 colleagues and operations in countries including the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States. It is a great environment to start your career and gain experience in Finance within an international context from day one. We do not expect you to know everything already. We are primarily looking for someone with a solid financial foundation, curiosity and the ambition to develop further. And we are happy to invest in that development. We also believe that learning works both ways. Through your studies, internship, graduation project, previous job or personal interests, you may already have explored new technologies, AI tools or different ways of working that we have not yet considered. We value that fresh perspective. So bring your ideas: together, we will explore whether and how we can put them into practice. Your role As an Assistant Controller, you will have a broad role within our Accounting & Control team. You will contribute to financial administration, periodic closings, reporting, treasury and audits, giving you the opportunity to develop a strong understanding of different areas within Finance. You will work alongside experienced colleagues who will support you and help you develop your professional skills. As your knowledge and experience grow, so will your independence and responsibilities. At the same time, Ultimo is looking ahead. AI and automation create many opportunities to make processes more efficient, improve quality and reduce manual work. You will have the opportunity to actively contribute to this. You do not need to be an AI expert – curiosity and a willingness to experiment are much more important to us. What will you do? Within Accounting & Control , you will support activities including: monthly, quarterly and year-end closings; reviewing and processing financial data; preparing balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules; identifying and following up on discrepancies in the financial administration; intercompany reconciliations between our international entities; improving and further automating financial processes and internal controls. Within Audit & Compliance , you will support external audits, prepare audit documentation and assist with CBS filings, statistical reporting and other finance and compliance-related activities. Treasury will also be part of your role. You will support weekly payment runs, banking activities, cash flow reporting and liquidity management. Finance, technology & AI Finance is changing rapidly. We do not see AI and automation as something for the future, but as part of how we want to work today and tomorrow. Together with the team, you will look at how processes can be improved. Which recurring activities can we automate? Where can AI support analysis or controls? And how can we make better use of our financial systems? For us, innovation is not about using technology simply because it is new. It should help us work more efficiently, improve quality and make smarter decisions. If you have ideas, you will have the opportunity to explore and test them and, if they work, implement them together with the team. Who are we looking for? This role is a great fit if you have recently graduated and are looking for your first professional job. It is equally suitable if you have already gained some initial work experience and are ready for your next step. We are looking for someone who: has completed an MBO+/HBO-level degree in Finance, Business Economics, Accountancy or a comparable field; has gained some practical experience in Finance or Accountancy through an internship, graduation project or first job; works accurately and in a structured way and is interested in understanding what is behind the numbers; has strong analytical skills and enjoys investigating and solving problems; takes initiative and is comfortable asking questions; is confident using Excel and comfortable learning new systems and technologies; is interested in AI and automation; communicates well in both Dutch and English, verbally and in writing. Do you not yet have experience in every area listed above? Do not let that stop you from applying. We look at what you already bring, but just as importantly at your potential and where you want to grow. Working and learning together Our Finance team regularly works together from our office in Nunspeet. We offer flexibility and the opportunity to work partly hybrid, but we also believe there is real value in spending time together as a team. Especially at the beginning of your career, you can learn a great deal simply by working alongside experienced colleagues: asking a quick question, looking at something together, solving a problem as a team or seeing how a colleague approaches a challenge. And, to be fair, it is also simply more enjoyable! You will not be placed behind a laptop and expected to figure everything out by yourself. You will become part of a team where people help each other, share knowledge and take responsibility for results together. What do we offer? We believe a strong start to your career should combine interesting work, opportunities to develop and competitive employment conditions. You can expect: a gross annual salary between €40,000 and €50,000 , depending on your knowledge and experience; an attractive annual bonus scheme; a strong pension plan; a €60 net monthly internet allowance; modern equipment and high-quality tools to do your job; flexibility and the opportunity to work partly hybrid; plenty of opportunities to continue developing professionally. You may start as an Assistant Controller, but we like to look beyond your first role. As your knowledge and experience grow, we will explore together what your next step could be within Accounting & Control, Finance or another financial specialisation that fits your strengths and ambitions. Interested? We are not looking for an experienced Controller with a ten-page CV. We are looking for someone with a solid foundation, curiosity, ambition and the motivation to build a professional career within an international software organisation. Someone who wants to learn from us, but who will also occasionally surprise us with an idea that makes us think: why weren’t we already doing it this way? Recognise yourself in this? We would love to meet you.
