The Associate Managing Editor collaborates with the managing editor to manage and oversee the daily operations of a peer-reviewed, top-ranked organization theory journal spanning disciplines including economics, sociology, psychology, management, and strategy. ASQ has two staff people, who are responsible for the journal’s business management, editing, production, the submission process, and marketing/promotion; in the managing editor’s absence, the Associate Managing Editor must independently manage and oversee these daily operations. This position will co-manage the journal’s online peer-review process for manuscripts, perform advanced developmental and copy editing of complex research articles, including independently assessing and recommending revisions and updates. The Associate Managing Editor independently manages and oversees the journal’s book review program, including creating and implementing workflow processes and meeting with project stakeholders. This position maintains ASQ’s Johnson School web pages, collaborates with Sage Publications to produce quarterly issues, maintains the ASQ Sage website, and promotes published research. The Associate Managing Editor independently organizes offsite events and online meetings for the editorial team, including some independent decision making based on budget information. This position collaborates with managing editor on all journal administrative tasks, which includes making independent decisions and communicating with the editor in chief, associate editors, editorial board, ad hoc reviewers, authors regarding contracting, data reports, and other administrative tasks. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of editorial experience Familiarity with academic research and ability to read and summarize an academic argument Exceptional developmental and copy editing and proofreading skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and to exercise discretion and good judgment in the context of a top-ranked publication A history of strong attention to detail and the ability to organize information for distribution and use by others Ability to understand and practice complex procedures for maintaining strict confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts in the anonymous review process Ability to assess problems independently and propose thoughtful solutions that preserve confidentiality Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Preferred Qualifications: Academic editing and publishing experience Familiarity with social sciences research Master’s degree in social science, English, communications, or related field, or equivalent experience or above Rewards & Benefits at Cornell: This is a full-time, temporary position based in Ithaca, NY.
