Business Development Representative

## **Who we are** Help Scout started in 2011 with a simple premise: support software should treat customers like people, not tickets. 3+ billion conversations later, more than 10,000 companies use Help Scout to grow relationships with customers of all types, from clients to patients and beyond. Now we’re in a new chapter: not only building AI that gives teams more space to focus on the customer experience, but also reimagining how we operate in an AI-native world. That means shipping and learning faster, without compromising on craft. Great work here carries a strong opinion and sweats the details, regardless of the tools we use to drive it. We’ve been a [fully remote team](https://articles.helpscout.com/blog/remote-culture/) since day one, with 120+ teammates now all over the world. It’s a culture where you’ll be trusted to take ownership, stay curious, and raise the quality of work around you. It comes with clear expectations and a team that will push you to do some of the best work of your career. If that kind of challenge gives you energy, we’d love to meet you. ## The opportunity Help Scout is building a sales-led outbound motion to win more mid-market customers. Most of our pipeline comes from inbound today & we are changing that mix. This role is the engine for it. We're hiring our first Business Development Representative to join our sales team. In this role, you’ll open conversations with the companies that fit us best and drive pipeline for our Account Executives. You'll also help shape the outbound playbook: which accounts, which messages, and which channels work. As our first BDR, we’re not looking for someone to run an established playbook… we're looking for someone who is eager to help shape one. Does that sound like you? If so, here’s more about the role: ## What you’ll do - **Research and personalize.** Use an AI tech stack to find the right prospects, from Support/Success leaders to Operations management and company executives. You'll maximize engagement by tailoring outreach using our messaging frameworks and templates, and will check AI-generated drafts before sending. - **Work defined target account lists.** Prospect into a defined list of ideal-fit mid-market companies based on our ICP criteria & strategic campaigns, and flag accounts that are not the right fit. - **Execute multi-channel outreach.** Manage outreach across several channels, including email, phone, LinkedIn, and video. - **Test and iterate.** Run messaging, personas, and channels tests, track what converts at the highest rates, and recommend changes to drive continuous improvement. - **Report on results.** Maintain updated reports and dashboards that illustrate your success rates across campaigns and performance towards your targets. Regularly review results and thoughtful recommendations for improvement with your manager. - **Hand off cleanly.** Partner closely with Account Executives to brief them on sourced meetings with well documented details about the contacts, accounts and messaging that led to the booking. Use AE feedback to regularly improve your hand-offs. ## About you - You have 1 to 2+ years as an outbound BDR or SDR at a B2B SaaS company, with a track record of meeting pipeline or opportunity targets. - You've prospected into companies with 250+ employees and know how to tailor messaging based on industry, job title and additional criteria. - You’re a great communicator, both with prospects and internal colleagues. - You actively use AI tools in your workflow for research, list building, or writing, and can recommend what works (experience with HubSpot & GTM platforms like Apollo, ZoomInfo, Sales Navigator or similar solutions a plus). - You can thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. - You're coachable and want to grow into a closing role. ## Compensation and benefits We use a competency-based approach to pay, and pay is the same no matter where in the U.S. you live. **Base salary:** $71,000 - $77,000 **On-target earnings (OTE):** $102,000 - $111,000 ## Company values ### *Happy to Help* Help is in our first name! We show up for each other — not out of obligation, but because we’re invested in the team’s collective success. We share knowledge freely, lead with generosity, and practice empathy with our teammates, customers, and community. ### *Craft over Convention* Our success relies on the quality and [craft](https://paulstamatiou.com/craft) of the work we put into the world. The status quo simply won’t work. So we insist on narrow focus, sweating every detail, and relentless pursuit of customer delight. ### *Progress not Perfection* Achieving our true potential — collectively and individually — requires constant progress and forward momentum. By creating a culture of curiosity and openness, we aim to create a safe space for mistakes, the ability to identify them quickly, and use them to get better. ### *Own the Outcome* Own the outcome means taking full responsibility for the results of your work, decisions, and contributions. It reflects a mindset of accountability, proactiveness, and follow-through. If you “own the outcome,” you don’t just complete tasks, you ensure your work leads to meaningful results, and take initiative to solve problems rather than passing them along. Of course, use any tools you need to prepare! But we'd like for you to have a real human-to-human conversation with our team. On our end, we utilize a platform called Brighthire as a notetaker and review tool to ensure a fair and transparent hiring process. *Beware of scammers!
