Business Partner

Job description

Worker Type: Permanent Here at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions through our promise "If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way." We support wellbeing, flexible working and have a generous leave offering. There is the opportunity for growth, learning and career development. No two days are the same. Mō te Tūranga | About the Role We’re looking for an experienced business banking professional who enjoys getting alongside local businesses, understanding what makes them tick, and helping them move forward with confidence. As a Business Partner, you’ll build trusted relationships with new and existing customers, support their business lending needs, and provide tailored banking solutions that help them grow, invest, and navigate opportunities. What does a day in the life of a Business Partner look like? Meeting with new and existing business customers, both in the office and out in the local business community. Building strong, trusted relationships by taking the time to understand each customer’s business, goals, and challenges. Identifying new business opportunities through proactive networking, referrals, and local market activity. Supporting customers with funding requirements, including business lending conversations that help enable growth. Working closely with colleagues and specialists to deliver the right solutions for customers. Representing BNZ in the local market through business development activity, events, and community connections. What attributes will this person have in order to be successful? This role will suit someone who is commercially minded, relationship-led, and confident having meaningful conversations with business owners. You’ll enjoy getting out into the market, building credibility with customers, and identifying opportunities to support business growth. You will bring: Experience working with business customers in banking, finance, accounting, or a related commercial environment. Confidence interpreting financial information and understanding business lending needs. Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust and create long-term value for customers, and a proactive approach to business development, networking, and identifying new customer opportunities. An established professional network would be valuable, but we’re equally interested in someone who has a proven ability to build credibility, grow connections, and identify new opportunities. Strong collaboration skills, with the confidence to work alongside specialists and internal teams to deliver the best outcomes for customers. Knowledge of banking products, business lending, markets, and industry trends. What is the team culture and environment like? This is an environment where you’ll be encouraged to share ideas, learn from others, and continue developing your commercial and relationship management capability. You’ll have the support of a knowledgeable team around you, while also having the autonomy to build your own customer relationships and presence in the local market. If you enjoy being close to your customers, working with commercially minded colleagues, and being part of a team that takes pride in delivering great outcomes, this could be a fantastic next step. What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity? What makes this opportunity exciting is the variety and impact. No two customers are the same — you’ll work with business owners at different stages of growth, helping them make confident decisions around funding, investment, and opportunity. It’s a role where you can be out in the market, build genuine long-term relationships, and see the real difference your advice and support can make for local businesses.
