Day - 08 Hour (United States of America) "The Clinical Applications Sr. Director for Acutem, Ambulatory, and Interventional Services will: '-Lead technology strategy and modernization across Acute Care/ED/L&D, PeriOp/Interventional/CV-IT/CathLab, and Ambulatory, spanning EpicCare Inpatient, ASAP, Stork, Bugsy, Epic OpTime, Anesthesia, Cupid, Lumens, EpicCare Ambulatory, Nurse Triage, and device platforms like Ceribell, VascuPRO, and CardioCare. - Set direction across a large and an interconnected set of care areas in Clinical Applications, where a patient's journey moves fluidly between acute, interventional, and ambulatory settings, and a change or gap in one area ripples into the others. Treat these three domains as one connected system of care, keeping roadmaps and priorities in sync. - Own vendor strategy across the broad vendor set in Clinical Applications, leading negotiation and total cost of ownership strategy at a multi-domain scale." A Brief Overview The Senior Director – IT Clinical Applications is accountable for the strategic direction and modernization of technology across multiple application domains or an enterprise-wide function within Clinical Applications. This role leads Directors, Managers, and Senior Managers across a broader portfolio, driving enterprise-level long-range planning, technical debt reduction, and platform modernization initiatives that span domains rather than sit within any single one. The Senior Director is a leading voice on the responsible adoption of AI within Clinical Applications, shaping direction for AI use across the portfolio as the organization's enterprise AI governance model continues to take shape, and ensuring domain-level AI initiatives ladder up to a coherent, enterprise-wide strategy rather than developing in isolation. This position reports to an Executive Director or Vice President, depending on area, and serves as a key advisor and executive-facing representative on the modernization, risk, and strategic direction of the broader application portfolio. Locations Stanford Health Care What you will do Strategic Leadership & Modernization Co-develop with other directors the enterprise-level long-range roadmap across multiple domains, sequencing technical debt reduction and platform modernization investments against clinical and operational priorities. Collaborate to set the enterprise approach for evaluating and prioritizing legacy remediation and modernization, ensuring consistency across Directors and domains. Maintain a forward-looking view of platform, vendor, and market capabilities that could materially change the portfolio's modernization roadmap. Advise executive IT and Operations leadership on portfolio-wide modernization tradeoffs and investment priorities. AI Leadership Serve as a leading voice on AI adoption within Clinical Applications, shaping direction across the portfolio as enterprise AI governance structures continue to mature. Ensure AI initiatives across domains ladder up to a coherent enterprise strategy rather than developing independently, partnering with Directors to align domain-level pilots to that strategy. Represent Clinical Applications in cross-functional discussions shaping the organization's emerging AI governance approach. Evaluate enterprise-scale AI opportunities and partner with Directors to translate them into domain-level execution. People Leadership Lead, coach, and develop Directors, Managers, and/or Senior Managers across the portfolio. Hire, evaluate the performance of, and implement corrective action — up to and including termination — for assigned leaders. Own succession planning across the broader portfolio, growing manager capabilities and developing future enterprise leaders. Planning & Resourcing Own budget across a broad portfolio of applications and services, including the investment case for modernization and technical debt reduction; Own cost center budgeting and participate in enterprise application portfolio budgeting. Lead vendor strategy and contract negotiation at an enterprise or multi-domain scale. Forecast enterprise technology and workforce trends and translate them into portfolio-level resourcing plans. Requirements, Design & Governance Collaboratively shape the requirements-gathering and solution-design standards that Directors apply within their domains. Adjudicate conflicting requirements and priorities that arise across domains or Directors. Represent Clinical Applications in the organization's enterprise governance forums as they are established, helping to shape their charter and decision rights. Set enterprise-level procedures and standards consistent with hospital and departmental policy. Monitor adherence. Delivery & Performance Own delivery and SLA outcomes across the broader portfolio; ensure consistent incident, problem, maintenance, and enhancement practices across domains. Serve as executive-facing point of contact for incidents that span multiple domains or carry enterprise-level risk. Develop and publish portfolio-level metrics, including measurable reduction of technical debt across domains over time; drive continuous improvement. Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction among supported clinicians and staff across the portfolio. Education Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field required. Master’s Degree preferred. Experience Qualifications Twelve (12)+ years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience required, including demonstrated success as a Director – IT Clinical Applications or equivalent. Demonstrated breadth required — success as a Director across more than one application domain, or through a major enterprise-level modernization or transformation initiative. Experience in a health care provider setting is strongly preferred. Health care-adjacent or life sciences experience may be considered. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge Understanding of the assigned application portfolio across multiple domains and how it maps to clinical/business workflows and enterprise technical platforms. Frameworks for prioritizing technical debt reduction and modernization investment at a portfolio or enterprise level. AI tooling landscape and responsible AI principles at an enterprise scale, including how governance approaches are evolving across the industry. Information technology disciplines across a broad, multi-domain portfolio. Principles and practices of organizational, fiscal, and personnel management at a portfolio level. Health care provider operations, and current issues and trends in health care and technology strategy. Local, state, and federal regulatory requirements across the domains in scope. Principles and practices of workforce planning and capacity/demand management. Skills Building and sequencing an enterprise-level long-range roadmap across multiple domains. Building the enterprise investment case for technical debt reduction and modernization, in terms executives and boards will act on. Leading vendor strategy and negotiating enterprise-scale contracts. Coaching Managers and Senior Managers on their people development, roadmap skills, and applications management capability. Adjudicating conflicts and tradeoffs that arise between Directors or across domains. Effective written, verbal, instructional, and presentation communication with executives, physicians, and cross-functional teams. Managing complex projects and resources (people, cost, and time) across multiple sub-teams. Abilities Operating effectively under organizational ambiguity, including evolving enterprise governance structures, while still driving the portfolio forward. Setting new precedent and shaping standards when no enterprise playbook yet exists. Exercising sound judgment on enterprise AI adoption risk in the absence of fully mature governance, while helping build that governance over time. Balancing enterprise-wide modernization investment against operational stability across multiple domains. Reading organizational dynamics at an executive and cross-domain level without being consumed by them. Fostering consensus across departments, Directors, and external vendors at an enterprise scale. Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $112.39 - $148.91 per hour The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
