The German Consulate General in Chicago is seeking to fill the position of a Driver for an initial period of one year, starting October 1, 2026 , with the possibility of extension. Core area of work: Driver for the Consul General and the staff of the Consulate General Performing care and maintenance of the office car Performing errands in the city Handling shipments to/from Chicago’s airports Administrative tasks in the offices of the Consulate General Requirements Valid U.S. driver’s license Impeccable driving record Profound knowledge of prevailing traffic regulations Good geographic knowledge of Chicago and Chicagoland area Good English language skills, German language skills a plus Motivated and reliable Flexible and able to work in a team Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime, including weekends and public holidays Care and maintenance of allotted vehicle on own initiative Benefits : The Consulate General offers applicants an attractive benefits package, including: Entry level salary: 4,294 USD (with annual raises for the first 5 years after passing a 6 month probation) Health insurance with a 75% employer contribution toward insurance premiums for employees and their eligible family members 401(k) retirement savings plan 17 days of paid annual leave upon hire 13 paid sick days per year Up to 13 paid public holidays per year Up to 50% reimbursement of disability insurance premiums The salary is based on a 40-hour workweek. The employment contract will initially be fixed-term for one year and includes a six-month probationary period. The contract may become permanent after two years. Employment terms and compensation (including overtime pay) are governed by local law and are based on the standard employment contract for locally employed staff at German diplomatic missions in the United States and the applicable pay scale. Following a successful selection process, candidates must demonstrate medical fitness for employment through an examination conducted by a physician designated by the Consulate General before they can be hired. In addition, a security clearance/background check will be conducted. Applicants are expected to cooperate fully with both the medical examination and the security screening process. Applicants who are not U.S. citizens are required to have a legal residence status in the US (Green Card or Visa) and a pre-existing US work authorization that does not require German Consulate General sponsorship.
