Job description

## **About Canopy** Canopy is one of the fastest-growing companies focused on workforce safety in healthcare. Backed by leading venture investors, Canopy is transforming how hospitals protect frontline staff and manage the care environment through a location intelligence platform that combines wearable safety technology, real-time location, intelligent alerting, managed services, and enterprise integrations built specifically for healthcare environments. We operate in high-trust, high-reliability environments where software quality, operational resilience, and customer experience matter deeply. Today, more than 70 leading health systems and 1,000 healthcare facilities rely on Canopy to protect frontline staff, improve emergency response, strengthen employee confidence, and support workforce retention. We are scaling rapidly, expanding our product portfolio, and partnering with some of the most recognized health systems in the country. This is an opportunity to join a high-growth, venture-backed company at a pivotal stage, where you can make a meaningful impact on both the business and the safety of healthcare workers nationwide. ## **The Role:** We're looking for a Controller to own not just every aspect of accounting at Canopy, but also help the CFO run the operations for crisp revenue contracting through recognition and collection. Canopy is moving into its next level of maturity and this leader will architect, implement and manage the systems, automation and AI-workflows that will allow us to scale efficiently while giving excellent service to internal and external customers. This is a high impact, cross-functional role for an accounting leader who can bring collaboration and a service orientation across the company while helping drive transparency and decision making. ## **What You’ll Own** You'll define the roadmap and deliver the services for Canopy’s accounting team, including: - Modernized tech stack: Implement a new, AI-native ERP and uplevel the rest of the finance tech stack - Revenue integrity: full ownership of revenue recognition including 606, hardware, implementation services, contract modifications, deferred revenue, commissions and reporting. Actively partner with Sales, Legal, CX and Finance to identify accounting implications and solutions in the order-to-cash process before decisions create downstream problems. - AI Integration: Treat AI tools and enabled systems as part of your daily operating environment, finding new ways to automate reconciliations, flux analysis, and all accounting workflows. - Inventory accounting: Partner with operations on inventory tracking, recording, reserve analysis and reporting - Monthly close: re-engineer our processes and data integrations to consistently close in 7 business days and then build a path to 5 business days or better. - Technical Ownership: Own technical accounting policies and GAAP compliance. - Compliance: lead the annual audit including the inaugural audit, manage regular tax compliance, administer annual corporate insurance program and support investor reporting. - Manage the accounting team: hire, mentor and grow staff to help them achieve company and career objectives. - Business-facing leadership: the modern controller operates visibly and real time, not behind the scenes. The controller will have executive presence, strong communication skills, commercial curiosity and will develop relationships across the leadership team, participate in discussions involving major contracts and operational changes, and surface risks and opportunities early. They need to be comfortable holding other functions accountable for the inputs and processes that affect our financial integrity. ### **Success in this role looks like** - Using modern tools to drive efficient close and accurate reporting. - Collaboration across the company for the optimal systems, processes and services. - Prompt and accurate invoicing, appropriate DSO and DPO metrics. - All compliance requirements are well planned and achieved. ## **What We’re Looking For** - 10+ years of accounting experience, with at least 4 years owning the close at a high-growth, venture-backed startup. - Active license CPA and Big 4 experience. - You have the "Builder" DNA with a genuine appetite for hands-on work. This is not a role for someone who wants to delegate the close; it’s for someone who wants to do it, automate it, and then teach the next person how to run it. - Collaborative mindset to partner with other functions and deliver on joint deliverables. - Inquisitive pursuit that keeps you digging until the numbers make sense. You ensure tight and compliance operations while not losing sight of the "so what" behind the data. - Demonstrable experience in hiring, mentoring and growing staff. - Experience and comfort with AI tools and native systems. Implementation of an AI-native ERP is a big plus. - Experience owning a well run annual audit process. - Excellent technical accounting skills. - Experience with SaaS is a must, experience in healthcare is a plus. - A genuine connection to Canopy’s mission — keeping healthcare workers safe is meaningful work, and we want people who feel that. ## **Working at Canopy** This is an opportunity to shape the platform that powers safety for hundreds of thousands of healthcare workers while defining the technical foundation for Canopy's next stage of growth. You'll work alongside passionate teammates solving complex technical challenges with meaningful real-world impact. *The base salary range for this position is $200k – $225k per year, depending on location, experience and qualifications. Canopy is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.*
