Data Engineer - Databricks

Job description

Does This Sound Like You? You are a data engineer responsible for building, maintaining, and keeping operational data pipelines and integrations that power modern lakehouse platforms on Databricks. This role forms the technical backbone of our clients' data organizations: without reliable data, no other part of the organization functions. You are familiar with software engineering and know your way around Databricks, building robust and scalable production systems. You enjoy not only bringing new products live, but also iterating and refining after go-live. The Xebia Databricks Division (XDD) XDD is one of Xebia's divisions, renowned for its expertise in building strong Data and AI solutions on Databricks that deliver value to our clients. In the past, our team has predicted daily bread demand for millions of loaves, built advanced energy-saving algorithms at a national scale, and built data platforms supporting millions of customers. You'll work with the sharpest data professionals in Europe, people who are not only technically brilliant but also generous with their knowledge. We enjoy the benefits of being part of a large organization while maintaining the energetic atmosphere of a scale-up. Our commitment to our community is strong; we are deeply rooted in the local landscape, sponsoring and organizing conferences, meetups, and giving back to the open-source community through our initiatives. What You’ll Be Doing To Make Organizations Data-Driven You will be responsible for implementing foundational data systems on Databricks to store, transform, and process data at scale . Always with security, reliability, and future growth in mind. You explain your design choices, align team members, and help client teams make confident and informed decisions about their data landscape. You will be surrounded by experts from diverse fields and learn from different environments and industries. Not always easy but always rewarding. You will be working long-term with our clients in the healthcare or banking domain, building deep domain knowledge while delivering meaningful impact, and get to see what happens after go-live: the edge cases, the slow leaks, the things that were "good enough" six months ago that you now get to make excellent. You're an engineer who wants to know why it works and who finds real satisfaction in building a battle- tested system rather than an MVP. When on-site with clients, you may encounter something very difficult to solve. At Xebia we work as a team and we've got your back. Everyone is just a message away and ready to help! We say People First, and we mean it. What are we looking for This Databricks Data Engineer role requires at least 3 years of relevant work experience. That said, we care more about impact than years. If you have unique achievements, like contributing to open-source projects or founding your own startup, we encourage you to apply, no matter your experience level. Technical skills matter, but so does the culture we create together. We're looking for like-minded people who genuinely enjoy taking ownership, sharing knowledge, and contributing in an environment where everyone can feel welcome, included, and supported. 📌 Please note: this role is open only to candidates based in the Netherlands . Having Dutch professional-level proficiency is also required. This is your dream job if…. ✅ You have hands-on experience with Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, workflows) and want to deepen your expertise on the platform. ✅ You understand the importance of cloud providers and know how they interact with Databricks. ✅ You're drawn to depth, ownership, and mastery over speed and novelty. ✅ You enjoy sharing knowledge. We write, speak, and teach because it's part of who we are. This is not your dream job if…. ❌ You are hesitant to take a proactive approach and bring your ideas forward. ❌ You do not like coding, scripting, templating, or working with open-source technology. ❌ You want to change clients rapidly. The Xebia Way We believe in building a respectful and collaborative atmosphere where everyone can shine. Picture this: a team of curious minds, always eager to learn and share ideas. We champion our people to grow into thought leaders and authority , whether that's publishing blogs, speaking at events, or shaping conversations about Data & AI. Xebia is a Great Place to Work™ certified organization driven by technology evangelists in Data and AI. Our global presence has a proven record of success across industries. Our Commitment to You A one-year contract that can be extended to an indefinite contract after that period Get a lease car or mobility budget Pick whatever laptop or MacBook you like after your first year.
