Director of Agent Operations

Job description

## **About the Company** Valerie Health is the AI front office for independent provider groups. We are reimagining how independent practices operate by using AI to modernize patient/provider communication, enhance care, and drive industry-changing operational efficiencies. **Why join us now?** - **Team:** We are led by [Pete Shalek](https://www.linkedin.com/in/petershalek/) (2x health tech exits, including a $600M acquisition by Optum) and [Nitin Joshi](https://www.linkedin.com/in/njoshi023/) (scaled Uber Eats + Health, Stripe Connect, and Bridge–acquired by Stripe for $1.1B). Beyond our Founders, our team brings decades of experience from Stripe, Uber, and Meta, combining deep expertise in ML systems, large-scale infrastructure, and product design. - **Trajectory:** We partner with leading independent provider groups across the U.S., automating hundreds of thousands of tasks each month. Scaling at **7x year-over-year** with **300% NRR** as customers consistently expand usage. - **Funding:** We have raised $39m from world-class investors including Redpoint Ventures, General Catalyst, Primary Ventures, and BoxGroup. ## **About the role** As Director of Agent Operations, you’ll build and lead a team that deploys AI agents to handle complex healthcare workflows. Working across customers, technology, and operations, you’ll own delivery from discovery through launch and continuously expand what agents can handle in production. Your team’s work directly supports Valerie’s growth and operating leverage. Faster, higher-quality implementations shorten time to value; reliable production workflows support retention and expansion; and greater workflow coverage allows us to serve more customers efficiently. You’ll hire and develop exceptional talent, guide implementation priorities and execution, and establish repeatable ways to scope, build, launch, and improve complex customer-specific implementations, even when the underlying workflows are bespoke. ## **What you’ll do** - **Build and lead a team.** Hire exceptional talent, coach people through complex work, and establish clear expectations and standards to support a growing team. - **Translate customer needs into reliable AI agents.** Lead workflow discovery, define agent behavior, and align customers on scope, timelines, and tradeoffs. - **Own your team’s agent delivery.** Guide your team through workflow design, code development, testing, and troubleshooting. Set a high bar for reliability and determine where Engineering support is needed. - **Expand automation after launch.** Use performance data to identify where agents fall short, prioritize improvements, and reduce manual work while protecting quality and customer trust. - **Drive cross-functional execution.** Partner with Customer Strategy, Engineering, and Operations to align on implementation priorities, resolve dependencies, and move quickly from decisions to results. - **Make implementation and automation repeatable.** Turn lessons from launches and ongoing optimization into reusable workflows, tests, tools, and practices that help your team deliver faster and improve agents consistently. ## **What you bring** - **Relevant experience.** 7+ years across consulting, strategy & operations, solutions engineering, technical implementation, analytics, finance, product, or related roles, including experience leading teams and hands-on experience at a high-growth startup. - **Team leadership.** You have led teams through complex work, coached teammates, and held a high bar for results. You’re ready to take ownership of hiring, developing, and scaling a strong team. - **Customer-facing judgment.** You uncover requirements, explain technical concepts clearly, and set expectations while earning customer trust. - **Hands-on technical judgment**: You can troubleshoot workflows across code, APIs, and data using SQL, logs, and tests; ship reliable customer-specific code with AI coding tools; and judge when Engineering support is needed. We value practical technical judgment; Engineering experience is helpful but not required. - **Analytical rigor.** You get to the root of problems and use evidence to weigh customer impact, urgency, effort, and long-term scalability. - **High-velocity, hands-on execution.** You bring structure to ambiguous work, deliver across technical and nontechnical teams, and learn new tools to improve results. ## **Bonus points** - Experience deploying or improving AI agents at scale. - Experience at a top-tier consulting firm. - Experience managing managers and developing new people leaders. - Familiarity with healthcare operations, EHRs, or healthcare integrations. ## **What We Offer** - Build and lead a core function at an AI-native startup, with direct influence on customer outcomes, company growth, and operating efficiency - Competitive salary, equity and benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) and flexible PTO - SF Office: Daily catered lunch and dinner reimbursement
