**EH&S – P3 (****Environmental & Sustainability)**
Develops, implements, and ensures continuous improvement of the Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) ecosystem. As a part of a winning team, the primary purposes are 1) maintaining compliance with the requirements of Boston Scientific’s corporate EH&S policies and requirements and all applicable national, state, and local regulations, 2) driving EH&S performance improvements across the site, and 3) capturing and communicating information describing EH&S roles, responsibilities and contribution.
## Position Summary
The Environmental Specialist is responsible for supporting Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs with a primary focus on environmental compliance in a manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with environmental regulations, permits, sustainability initiatives, and EHS requirements through risk identification, incident prevention, regulatory coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong environmental compliance experience while also supporting broader EHS initiatives, including training, audits, and policy implementation.
**Responsibilities**
- Maintain and report site EH&S metrics, statistics and records to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, support the ISO 14001 EMS, and fulfill Corporate reporting and information needs.
- Support management of the Workers’ Compensation program, and pro-actively work to reduce workplace injury frequency and severity rates.
- Professional contacts with approved waste vendors.
- Act as the facility’s Pollution Prevention/Waste Minimization/Recycling Site representative. Promote cost-savings/cost-avoidance measures throughout all operations of the facility.
- Advocate for EH&S as a core value of Boston Scientific and provide regular communications within the EH&S team regarding EH&S activities and performance.
- Serve on the facility Emergency Response team.
- Chair or serve on EH&S-related committees, task forces and/or cross functional teams.
- Conduct EH&S compliance audits, self-assessments, and inspections throughout the facilities.
- Conduct chemical and MSDS risk assessments, as well as operations risk assessments to specify engineering controls, and other regulatory requirements as applicable.
- Identify hazardous workplace conditions and establishes guidelines for compliance, risk and injury reduction.
- Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable local, national and state regulations.
## Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), with emphasis in environmental compliance.
- Experience managing environmental permits and regulatory compliance activities related to air, water, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, and environmental reporting.
- Experience interacting with environmental regulatory agencies and supporting regulatory compliance activities, including agencies such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Puerto Rico Environmental Quality Board (EQB) / Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DNER), Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA), Puerto Rico Solid Waste Authority, and similar local or federal environmental agencies.
- Experience supporting or working within an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, including audits, compliance, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and Environmental, Health & Safety standards.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
## Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting regulated or high-risk manufacturing environments preferred, including Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Electronics, Electromechanical, Aerospace, Industrial Manufacturing, or similar industries.
- Experience in Medical Device manufacturing environments preferred.
- Experience leading or supporting sustainability initiatives such as Zero Waste, waste minimization, recycling, emissions reduction, and environmental performance improvement programs.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 and broader EHS management systems is preferred.
- Professional certifications related to Environmental Compliance, EHS, Sustainability, OSHA, or equivalent are preferred.
