Employment and Commercial Counsel Lead, US

Job description

### **Mission** Neko is redefining what prevention means, from treating illness when it arrives, to sustaining health before it's ever at risk. Our mission: make data-driven, preventative care accessible to more people, before symptoms appear. In a single, non-invasive visit under an hour, proprietary technology and direct clinical care combine to deliver personalised, actionable insights. It's a team that thinks in 10x, not 10%. Every role here plays a part in building a world where prevention is the norm, and where your work genuinely helps people live longer, healthier lives. ### Role Purpose As we scale in the US, we're looking for an Employment and Commercial Counsel to help build out our legal function, with labor and employment law as a major focus alongside broader commercial and corporate work. You'll join Neko's legal team and report to the General Counsel in Sweden. The role is varied and critical to navigating the legal complexity of Neko's expansion across North America, spanning employment, commercial and corporate law. Labor and employment work will take up a growing share of the role. ### What you'll do in the first 6-12 Months - **Labor & Employment**: Own labor and employment matters across the US business, including employee relations, workplace investigations, wage and hour compliance, terminations, and leave issues. This is a major and growing part of the role as our US headcount scales rapidly. - **Legal Advisory**: Support and advise US operations, engineering, clinical, and regulatory teams on commercial law, data protection, marketing, IP, and compliance. - **Contract Management**: Review and negotiate commercial contracts, including software and technology agreements, supplier agreements, and collaborations. - **Risk Management**: Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risk across our operations, technology, and healthcare services as we expand. - **Compliance**: Monitor and advise on privacy and healthcare regulations in the US and other key markets, working with the Global Privacy Lead on data protection agreements, terms of service, and privacy notices. - **Corporate Governance**: Support the development and implementation of risk and compliance policies and procedures. ### Minimum Requirements - J.D. from an ABA accredited law school, and active admission to a U.S. State Bar in good standing (New York preferred). - 8-10 years of relevant legal experience, ideally split between a leading US law firm and an in-house legal team. - Substantial hands-on experience in labor and employment law, including employee relations, workplace investigations, and wage and hour compliance. - Experience partnering with People/HR teams to build scalable employment policies, training, and processes as a US workforce grows. - Strong grounding in commercial and corporate law, with a track record of drafting and negotiating complex agreements. - Commercially minded, with the judgment to deliver practical solutions at the intersection of law, people, and a fast-growing business. - Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and stakeholders. - A team first mindset - comfortable collaborating across roles, functions and areas of expertise. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. ### Nice to Have - Familiarity with healthcare regulations. - Exposure to IP and data protection matters. - Experience supporting a company through rapid US headcount growth or multi-state expansion. ### **Why Neko** At Neko, you'll get the chance to shape how a fast-growing company manages its legal and people risk, at a company that believes preventive healthcare can change lives. The package is competitive, base salary, equity, and full benefits, but the real draw is the work itself: a broad mandate, a seasoned legal team, and watching what you build reach members across two continents. - **Broad scope, real ownership**: commercial, corporate, and employment work in one role, with growing responsibility as US operations expand. - **A voice across the business**: partner directly with the General Counsel and stakeholders across engineering, clinical, and regulatory teams. - **A connected legal team**: work alongside six lawyers across the US and Europe, with strong support rather than working in isolation. - **Impact from day one**: direct influence over how Neko manages legal and employment risk as it scales. ### **About titles at Neko** We use a simplified internal title framework that prioritizes clarity over hierarchy, so internal titles may differ from market-facing role titles. Scope, impact and level of the role are fully aligned and will be clearly discussed throughout the process. ### **Hiring Process** Candidates progress from application and structured screening through thoughtfully designed interviews culminating in a formal offer and final pre-employment checks before joining the team. ### **Equal Opportunity & Inclusion Statement** Neko Health is committed to inclusive hiring and member-first care. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and encourage you to request reasonable accommodations to support your application.
