Job description
**This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Engineering Manager - Core Infrastructure based in Canada.** This role offers the opportunity to lead an engineering team responsible for the foundational infrastructure behind highly scalable, business-critical systems. You will guide engineers in building reusable infrastructure platforms that enable development teams to move faster, securely and with confidence. The position combines people leadership with hands-on involvement in architecture, reliability, cloud strategy and platform engineering. You will help shape large-scale distributed systems across complex multi-cloud environments while driving operational efficiency and cloud cost optimization. The role also provides opportunities to influence engineering strategy beyond your immediate team and collaborate with teams across the organization. A strong focus on innovation, responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), experimentation and continuous improvement makes this an impactful environment for experienced infrastructure leaders. ### Accountabilities - Lead and develop a growing team of engineers focused on building reliable, scalable and high-quality core infrastructure platforms. - Participate in the architecture and design of large-scale infrastructure services that support engineering teams and business-critical workloads. - Review, provide feedback on and approve technical designs and architecture proposals developed by the team. - Define and maintain standards for service deployments across complex, multi-cloud environments. - Build and promote reusable infrastructure modules and internal developer platform capabilities that enable engineering teams to self-serve. - Drive cloud cost optimization initiatives while balancing performance, reliability, operational efficiency and budget considerations. - Own capacity planning, team planning, retrospectives and other operating rhythms that encourage collaboration and continuous improvement. - Help shape and maintain the product and technical roadmap for core infrastructure capabilities. - Facilitate technical learning through architecture discussions, proof-of-concept demonstrations, design sessions and knowledge-sharing activities. - Manage on-call practices and support a strong culture of service reliability and operational ownership. - Influence engineering strategy beyond the immediate team and act as a technical advisor to other engineering groups. - Support a flexible and collaborative working environment through clear communication, effective planning and healthy work practices. ### **Requirements** - 8+ years of professional industry experience in software engineering, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering or a related technical field. - 4+ years of experience managing engineering teams, including experience leading Senior Engineers. - Strong experience with configuration management technologies such as Chef, Puppet, Salt or comparable solutions. - Hands-on experience with provisioning and orchestration technologies such as Pulumi, Terraform, Ansible, Temporal or similar platforms. - Strong knowledge of immutable architecture, distributed systems design and large-scale infrastructure engineering. - Professional software development experience with Python or Go, including design patterns, data structures and algorithms. - Experience managing large-scale, business-critical Linux environments. - Experience operating cloud infrastructure, with AWS and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) preferred. - Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), Chaos Engineering or comparable infrastructure resilience and reliability practices. - Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps and GitOps principles, including Service Level Objective (SLO) management, error budgets and post-incident analysis. - Experience building and managing reusable infrastructure modules and Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs). - Proven ability to use AI technologies to improve decision-making, streamline workflows, increase efficiency and support business outcomes. - Experience working effectively with both local and distributed teams. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly. - Confidence and independence combined with sound judgment about when to seek input, collaborate or escalate. - Strong organizational and people-management skills, including experience overseeing on-call responsibilities. - Demonstrated ability to influence technical and engineering strategy beyond your immediate area of responsibility. - Ability to serve as a trusted technical consultant to other product and engineering teams. ### **Benefits** - Base salary of $150,000–$200,000 CAD per year for Canada-based employees. - Variable or incentive compensation. - Equity opportunities. - Comprehensive benefits package. - Physical and mental wellness programs. - Competitive vacation and paid time off. - Paid parental and adoption leave. - Professional development opportunities available across levels and roles. - Employee networks, geographic community groups and volunteering opportunities. - Flexible working practices designed to support autonomy and work-life balance. - Hybrid work expectations may apply for employees located close to designated office locations. - Opportunities to work on large-scale infrastructure, cloud platforms and emerging AI technologies. - A collaborative environment focused on innovation, experimentation and continuous improvement. - Canadian employment with legal entitlement to work in Canada required. - Candidates selected to advance may be subject to background checks, including criminal record, credit and/or reference checks.
