Engineering Technician

Job description

Nanopath is developing a first-in-class in vitro diagnostics platform to transform how diseases are diagnosed. We aim to replace lengthy molecular testing workflows by bringing rapid, high-quality diagnostics closer to the patient. Our mission is to improve patient outcomes – starting with women – through a purpose-built platform that delivers actionable results within a single office visit. The company is headquartered at The Engine, the premier tough technology incubator in the Kendall Square ecosystem. We are collectively committed to health equity and the design of solutions for underserved populations and low-resource settings. Corporate sustainability – both environmental and social – is at the forefront of our decision making. **About the Role** - Support the assembly, build, and testing of Nanopath's point-of-care molecular diagnostic platform, including the fluidic cartridge consumable and the optical reader instrument. - Assemble plastic cartridge consumables, including component preparation, bonding, sealing, and reagent loading, following documented work instructions. - Build and integrate electromechanical assemblies for reader systems, including mechanisms, motors, sensors, optics, wiring harnesses, and PCBAs. - Perform in-process inspection, functional testing, and troubleshooting of cartridges and reader subassemblies, and report non-conformances to the engineering team. - Support builds from prototype through pilot production, and provide hands-on feedback to engineering on design for assembly and manufacturability. - Help develop, refine, and maintain assembly work instructions, build records, fixtures, and tooling. - Manage parts inventory, kitting, and incoming inspection of components from vendors and contract manufacturers. - Maintain build documentation and traceability in compliance with ISO 13485 and Good Documentation Practices. **Technical Qualifications** - Hands-on experience assembling cartridge consumables, microfluidic devices, or other plastic disposables, ideally for medical devices or diagnostics. - Hands-on experience building electromechanical assemblies or instruments. - Proficiency with hand and power tools, precision measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges), and basic electrical test equipment (multimeter, power supply). - Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly instructions, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials; working familiarity with GD&T is a plus. - Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment (ISO 13485, FDA QSR/QMSR), including following controlled procedures and completing device history or build records. - Experience in cleanroom or controlled-environment assembly, ESD-safe handling, or IPC soldering and cable/harness standards (e.g., IPC J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620) is a plus. - Experience supporting the transfer of builds from prototype to pilot or contract manufacturing is a plus. **General Qualifications** - Associate degree, technical certificate, or military technical training. At least 2 years of hands-on assembly experience in medical device, diagnostics, or other precision manufacturing. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent may be acceptable in lieu of experience. - Ability to work on-site in Cambridge, MA. - Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity, with a commitment to quality and consistency in repetitive, precise work. - Clear communicator who documents work accurately and raises issues early to engineering and quality teams. - Proactive self-starter with eagerness to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment. - Passion for technology translation and willingness to shape Nanopath’s future. *Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Nanopath we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every point in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles!* *Nanopath Inc. is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.* *Nanopath does not accept unsolicited resumes from recruiters or agencies and we will not be responsible for any fees related to resumes that are unsolicited.
