Job description
**Overview** Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) is the direct service provider of ESOL and adult literacy instruction for The New York Public Library (NYPL). Professional teachers facilitate free instruction to adult patrons in reading, writing, speaking and listening from a 0 to 8th grade level in both in-person and online classes. Instruction is offered in three, 10-week cycles and one, 4-week summer cycle. ***\*Please note this position is for our fall cycle of classes which lasts 10 weeks and takes place between September and December.\**** ***Must be available to work at St. George Library Center (Staten Island) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00am-1:00pm*** **Responsibilities** - Teach ESOL classes that promote English language proficiency and digital literacy for students assessed at NRS levels 1-6 - Follow the prescribed curriculum in a communicative language teaching environment during class-time - Submit lesson plans that demonstrate communicative language teaching in alignment with the prescribed curriculum - Instruct adult ESOL students in classes and learning experiences, which will lead to the achievement of their educational and personal goals - Assist in the managed enrollment process to recruit students and maintain student records - Participate in prescribed professional development pertaining to adult basic education and Library strategic priorities
