Fabrication Operator, Frontend Wafer module

Job description

At IQM, we build world-leading quantum computers for the well-being of humankind. We design systems to tackle computational challenges beyond the practical limits of classical machines. Our work sits at the edge of science and engineering. It's complex, demanding, and deeply collaborative. We turn deep research into reliable, full-stack systems that drive discoveries in fields like medicine, energy, and technology, reshaping how the world computes. Join the team that gives quantum a heartbeat. The work As Fabrication Operator, Frontend Wafer module, you'll be hands-on in our cleanroom, fabricating the QPUs and test wafers at the heart of IQM's quantum computers. You'll run matured front-end fabrication and metrology processes with a safety-first mindset, following our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Best-Known Methods (BKMs) so every wafer comes out with consistent quality and on time. You'll join the Fabrication department in QPU Production at our Foundry Espoo F1, reporting to the Wafer Production Team Leader. Day to day you'll work closely with fellow operators, Production Engineers, the tech lead, and Team Leaders, alongside other teams across IQM. This is precision work: operating lithography, deposition, etch, and wet/thermal tools, keeping the line moving, and catching anything out of spec before it becomes a problem. The role is onsite and full-time, with readiness to work in shifts when required. What you’ll actually do Execute front-end QPU fabrication and metrology work strictly according to SOPs, work instructions, and safety protocols Safely operate cleanroom tools for lithography, deposition, etch, and wet/thermal processes, using the provided setups and recipes Run assigned production lots efficiently to hit daily throughput targets and keep the line moving Monitor equipment status and process progress in real time, making sure every run stays within specified parameters Log all production activity in the MES, checking wafer lots in and out of stations and capturing process data as you go Keep strict cleanroom discipline, including proper gowning and chemical handling, to prevent contamination and keep everyone safe Spot and immediately report process drifts, equipment errors, or quality deviations to the Production Engineer Give clear shift handovers on work-in-progress and tool issues so operation continues smoothly Keep workstations to 5S standards and reset your workspace at every shift change Take part in weekly planning and reporting meetings, and report any incidents or accidents to your Team Leader and the H&S responsible What we’re looking for Hands-on production experience from a cleanroom environment (any industry, e.g. semiconductor, pharma or medical devices), with at least 1 year of lab work A degree from a university of applied sciences, for example in engineering (or equivalent work experience) The discipline to execute work exactly according to SOPs and deliver consistent results, batch after batch A detail-oriented, safety-first mindset across complex fabrication processes Good technical communication: you can explain a problem and its solution to people who know the fabrication process but not the details of the issue A team player with strong communication skills who follows safety rules, keeps a traceable record of their work, and respects other people's work Readiness to work in shifts when required Sees as an advantage Cleanroom experience from semiconductor or wafer fabrication Chemical experience Hands-on experience with lithography, deposition, etch, or wet/thermal process tools, or with an MES Enthusiasm for quantum technology and contributing to IQM's technology roadmap Why IQM? Full-stack quantum computing: From quantum hardware to software layers and beyond, we build across the full-stack. Never the smartest: You won’t always be the smartest person in the room. Neither will we. Expect to learn constantly - from each other and beyond with IQM’s Learning Hub, LinkedIn Learning, and a team-based L&D budget. Approachable leadership: Flat hierarchy, direct access. Feel free to approach any leaders. They're friendlier than they look! The sweet spot: Big enough to matter. Small enough to move fast. Growing between a startup and a corporation. We’re in the phase where top performers get noticed. Bigger than IQM: Our people build know-how for the entire quantum ecosystem. We publish papers, run hackathons, and help shape a market that's still being defined. The future of computing won’t build itself. You might be one of the few who do. Meet our people and learn more about IQM on our stories page. Explore our scientific publications. We'll start interviews and move forward with hiring as soon as we meet strong candidates.
