Field Marketing Manager

**Field Marketing Manager** Marketing • Remote, US • Full time • Remote • $110K-$130K + Equity **About Rec** Think about the last time you tried to book a tennis court. Or sign your kid up for a swim lesson. Or find an open rec league that actually fits your schedule. You probably ended up on a website that looked like it was built in 2003, or even worse, filled out a piece of paper. $3T is spent on recreation globally, and it’s built on a completely fragmented system that’s largely untouched by technology. At Rec ([](http://recreation.ai)), we’re using AI to change that: reimagining how the world plays, participates in community, and gets active. Our vision is simple: more recreation for everyone. We sit at a rare intersection, a consumer product loved by everyday players and an enterprise platform trusted by the organizations that power recreation. We’re a small team with firepower. Our founders were among the first few hundred at Uber, then led teams at The Athletic and MasterClass. The rest of the team combines builders from Google, Microsoft, Strava, Hipcamp, and Airbnb. People join Rec for two reasons: you want to build AI that gets people back in the real world, and you want to work with really smart people. **About The Role** Events are at the center of how Rec goes to market, and this industry puts on an incredible number of them. NRPA moves to a different American city every fall, nearly every state runs its own conference, there are regional workshops all year, and then there’s Rec Forward, our own event series that we run city by city. The people who buy our technology see each other in these halls year after year, which means reputation here travels by word of mouth long before it travels by advertising. We’re hiring someone to be in those halls. It helps that the people are genuinely great. Parks and recreation professionals run the summer camp your kid still talks about and keep the pool open through a budget cycle that says they shouldn’t be able to. There is a beloved sitcom about this world, and the thing it got right is the people. This is explicitly not a Dreamforce booth, and almost everyone who does this job for a while tells us that’s the best part of it. You’ll be at the shows, in the booth, giving the demo yourself, and we mean a real demo rather than a badge scan and a brochure. An actual walkthrough of how a recreation department runs a full season of programs in Rec, good enough that a director who has been running the same software since 2011 asks you what it would take to switch. Then you qualify them on the floor and get the meeting booked before they leave the hall. You’ll also carry a number: event-sourced pipeline is how this role is measured, with qualified meetings as the leading indicator, because we would rather you come home from a show with eleven real conversations than nine hundred scans. One thing worth being clear about: our Events Operations Lead owns event logistics, from contracts and booth build and freight through registrations and the operational calendar. You are not the person chasing a shipment that went to the wrong dock. You are the person in the booth turning traffic into pipeline, and then the person who follows up on Monday. If you want a role where you’re producing the event, this isn’t the seat. You’ll also learn two very different circuits. Municipal Parks and Recreation buyers move through procurement, budget calendars, and council or board approval, and they build credibility in person over several years. Private operators (racquet and sports facilities, public private partnerships, membership clubs) decide in weeks and show up at completely different events. This role reports to Rec’s Head of Growth Marketing. It’s a hands-on individual contributor role with no direct reports. **What You’ll Own** The floor: Work Rec’s booth at every show that matters, opening conversations with prospects, reading who’s a real buyer and who’s collecting pens, and spending your time on the ones worth spending it on. The demo: Give the product demo yourself, to directors and operators who do this for a living. You’ll know Rec well enough to answer a skeptic’s questions without phoning a friend, and honest enough to say when something isn’t built yet. A pipeline number: Own event-sourced pipeline as your primary metric, with qualified meetings booked as the leading indicator and cost per qualified meeting as the efficiency check. Pre-event account targeting: Work with Sales to pick the accounts worth chasing at each show, get meetings on the calendar before the doors open, and make sure reps arrive knowing exactly who they’re looking for. Post-event follow-through: Own what happens in the seventy two hours after a show, including your own follow-up, clean handoffs to reps, and then an honest read sixty to ninety days later on what the event actually produced. Rec Forward: Be a face in the room at Rec’s own regional workshops for recreation departments, helping shape the invite list, working the attendees, and turning a good afternoon into real conversations. The field feedback loop: You’ll hear more unfiltered buyer language in one season than anyone else at Rec, so get it back to Product Marketing, Sales, and Product, in writing, while it’s still fresh. **Who You Are** - 2 to 5 years in field marketing, event marketing, or a BDR/AE seat where you spent real time working booths. We care more about what you’ve personally executed than the size of the program you sat next to. - You can learn a product deeply and you want to, because you’ll be demoing Rec to people who run recreation departments for a living and shallow will show. If your instinct is “I’d need to loop in a solutions engineer,” this will be uncomfortable. - You’re comfortable opening a conversation with a prospect and qualifying them without it feeling like an interrogation. - You know the difference between a busy show day and a good one, and you can explain what you changed the second time you worked the same conference. - You’ve been measured on pipeline or meetings rather than attendance and lead counts, and you prefer it that way. - You work well unsupervised. In season you’ll be on the road most weeks, deciding for yourself how to spend a Tuesday afternoon on a slow floor. - You travel well. This role is on the road roughly 40% to 50% during conference season in the spring and fall, lighter in between, and some of it lands on weekends. - You actually like these people. The best field marketers in this industry are the ones who stay for the after-party and remember somebody’s assistant director by name a year later. - Bonus: vertical SaaS, public sector or procurement-driven sales, existing relationships in the parks and recreation association world, or experience displacing entrenched legacy software. **Our Values** - Be Relentless. Move fast. Own it. Ship real value early and often. - Win Together. Speak up, go beyond the boundaries of your role. That’s how we win. - Take Pride. Treat this like it’s yours, because it is. **Pay and Benefits** - Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 base, plus variable tied to event-sourced pipeline (roughly 15% of base at target) + meaningful equity (final offer will be based on your background, experience and skillset) - Benefits: Flexible PTO, top-tier health/dental/vision, and a 401(k) plan to support your future. - Travel: The road is the hardest part of this job, so we’ve written the policy down rather than leaving it to goodwill. You book your own travel inside a budget, with no per-trip approval. Weekend show days come back to you as weekdays off. You get a recovery day after any trip of four nights or more, and we cap the road at three consecutive weeks. Airline and hotel points are yours to keep. - Work location: Remote, United States. You should be within easy reach of a major airport. The team is in San Francisco and you’ll join us here for onsites several times a year.
