Job description
Gravis Robotics is a high-growth Series A start-up backed by SoftBank, bringing Physical AI to the construction industry, turning heavy construction machines into autonomous robots. Gravis began as an ETH Zurich spin-out, and our unique combination of learning-based automation and augmented remote control lets one operator safely conduct a fleet of earthmoving machines in a gamified environment. Backed by deep robotics research and now deployed across multiple countries with leading construction and equipment partners, our team is rapidly growing to bring this technology to a trillion-dollar industry. **About the Job** **This role involves intense business travel, mostly in the Oxford–London corridor. When not traveling, the work can be performed from the Oxford area.** At Gravis, we operate at the intersection of hardware, software, and real-world deployment. Our Rooftop Autonomous Control Kit (RACK) integrates sensing, compute, communication, and networking into a manufacturer-agnostic solution deployable across a wide range of construction machines. As a Field Robotics Engineer, you will play a central role in delivering customer projects and ensuring our systems meet the highest standards of reliability and performance. This **hybrid position combines hands-on technical execution with ownership of customer deployment projects from planning through delivery**. You will work closely with R&D and Operations to coordinate end-to-end deployments, continuously improving how we plan, test, and deliver our solutions. You will lead on-site setup and commissioning, engage directly with customers throughout project execution, and help translate complex robotic system behavior into reliable real-world performance. Your ability to understand and troubleshoot integrated robotic systems will be essential to maintaining and advancing the robustness of our field operations. ### What you will do - Lead the technical execution of customer deployment projects from start to finish. - Own end-to-end technical planning, coordination, and follow-up in close collaboration with Operations. - Serve as a trusted technical point of contact for customers throughout the deployment lifecycle. - Provide hands-on technical support and guidance to customers and end users. - Perform regular system testing to ensure reliability, robustness, and performance. - Generate performance reports and work with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues quickly. - Contribute to continuous improvement of deployment processes, tooling, and best practices. ### What we’re looking for - University degree (including degrees from universities of applied sciences) in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. - Strong experience deploying, integrating, and debugging robotic software systems. - Experience with the ROS ecosystem. - Solid Linux proficiency. - Fluency with Git or other version control systems. - Good programming skills in C++ and Python. - Willingness to travel to customer sites (including internationally, depending on project needs). - Valid Category B driving license. ### Beneficial: - Hands-on mechanical or electronics experience (hardware assembly, basic soldering) - Experience with communication protocols such as CAN - Previous customer project or technical project management experience - Practical experience repairing vehicles, machinery, bicycles, or electronics - Experience operating or working with construction or agricultural machinery
