Finance & Operations Analyst

Job description

**ABOUT BASELAYER** --- Every business in America needs a bank account to exist. The system that decides whether they're real, who's behind them, and whether they're a risk, runs on infrastructure from the 1980s. We're rebuilding that layer from scratch. Baselayer is the identity layer for institutions across the United States: the most complete business graph in America and every human tied to it. We fuse public records, IRS data, sanctions lists, web signals, and fraud telemetry from 2,200+ financial institutions into a single graph that resolves any business and the humans behind it in milliseconds. The legacy credit bureaus took 50 years to build something that gets 60% match rates. We've built something that gets 98% in under two years. Today we're trusted by over 20% of financial institutions in America including FIS, Rho, Socure and top five US banks. But the graph is becoming infrastructure for anyone who needs to know if a business is real and worth trusting: gig platforms, marketplaces, AI companies, and commerce infrastructure at scale. Trust is the substrate of every financial transaction. We're rebuilding it. **ABOUT THE TEAM** --- AI agents are starting to transact: opening accounts, buying services, moving money on behalf of the businesses and people behind them. Every one of those transactions has a counterparty asking the question banks have always asked: who am I dealing with, and can I trust them? Today's identity infrastructure wasn't built to answer it at agent speed. The Agentic Economy team is extending Baselayer's business graph into the trust layer for agentic commerce: verifiable credentials that bind an agent to the verified business and human behind it, a registry counterparties can query in real time, and verification APIs that plug into the networks, platforms, and protocols where agent transactions happen. We run like a startup inside a startup: a small senior team led by our GM of Agentic Economy, working directly with payment networks, banks, wallet providers, and agent platforms. The category is being defined right now; the standards, seats, and infrastructure decisions of the next 18 months will be consequential for a decade. #### **ABOUT THE ROLE** --- We are looking for a Finance & Operations Analyst to be the Swiss Army knife of our Operations & Finance team. You will own the numbers — month-end close, accounting, and FP&A — and you will also own smaller tasks that keep a fast-growing startup running, from office logistics to getting a new teammate's laptop set up. This is a highly visible role reporting directly to the Head of Operations & Finance. You will see the entire business: how revenue is recognized, where money goes, what it costs to grow, and where the process is still held together with duct tape. Your job is to close the books accurately, build the reporting leadership relies on, and then go fix the duct tape. This is not a role for someone who wants a narrow lane. We are looking for someone who is willing to get their hands dirty, moves fast, and takes as much pride in a clean reconciliation as in unblocking a teammate on a Friday afternoon. **WHAT YOU'LL DO** --- **FP&A & Reporting** - Track and analyze unit economics and SaaS metrics — ARR, gross margin, NDR, burn multiple, and more - Build and maintain the operating model, budget vs. actuals, and rolling cash forecast - Produce recurring management and board-level reporting on revenue, burn, runway, and departmental spend - Turn ambiguous questions into clear analysis: what is this costing us, what is driving the variance, and what should we do about it **Business Operations** - Improve and automate the finance stack — billing, invoicing, expense management, and procurement - Own vendor and software spend management, including renewals and contracts - Support compliance and corporate housekeeping in partnership with Legal and Compliance including annual SOC2, penetration testing, business insurance and more - Support HR and Recruiting with on/off-boarding, assisting new employees, and general support requests - Work with BI tooling to provide valuable insights to internal key players **Accounting & Month-End Close** - Assist with the month-end close process end to end — journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and account reconciliations - Manage account mapping for credit card payments and billing - Partner with our outside accountants and tax advisors on close support, year-end, and compliance filings **Office & Internal Support** - Keep the office running — supplies, vendors, seating, events, and the day-to-day logistics of an in-person team - Serve as first-line internal helpdesk: laptop setup, SaaS provisioning and access, and basic IT troubleshooting for new hires and the broader team - Jump on ad-hoc projects across the business wherever the need is greatest **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** --- - 1 to 3 years of experience in accounting, FP&A, finance, or business operations - Hands-on experience supporting a month-end close, including reconciliations and journal entries - Highly advanced Microsoft Excel — this is a must - Tech savvy and quick to pick up new systems, with a bias toward automating manual work - Exceptional attention to detail and a high bar for accuracy - Willing to get your hands dirty and take on tasks that might operate outside a job description **WHAT SETS YOU APART** --- - Startup experience, ideally at an early-stage company where you built process rather than inherited it - Hands-on experience with QuickBooks or a similar accounting system - SQL skills and experience with BI tools; Metabase is a plus - Experience with billing, expense management, or procurement tooling - You are proactive, self-directed, and comfortable operating without detailed instructions - You are a true Swiss Army knife — you would rather own ten things well than one thing narrowly - You want to be foundational and help build something that lasts **WORK LOCATION** --- - Based in NYC; 5 days a week **COMPENSATION** --- - ***Salary Range:*** $80,000 - $110,000 + Bonus + Equity **BENEFITS** --- - ***Time off when you need it:*** Flexible PTO so you can recharge without red tape - ***In-person energy:*** We're based in NYC and meet in the office 5 days a week - ***Competitive compensation:*** We pay well and back it with equity. We want you to think and act like an owner - ***Career rocket fuel:*** You'll help build the foundation of a high-growth startup, working side by side with experienced founders and team members who've done it before - ***Benefits on us:*** We cover 100% of your health, dental, and vision premiums. No surprise deductions from your paycheck - ***401(k) with company match***: We match your contributions so your future self benefits too - ***HSA contributions included:*** We contribute to your HSA on applicable plans, so your coverage works as hard as you do - ***Stay healthy, stay sharp:*** A $250 monthly gym stipend to help you bring your best self to work, and everywhere else - ***Lunch on us:*** Lunch stipend so you can stay fueled and focused without thinking about it - ***A seat at the table:*** We believe in transparency, radical candor, and giving every team member a voice 🔥
