Financial Crimes Analyst

Job description

**Few people get to build a bank from scratch. Even fewer get to build one at a moment when banking itself is being reinvented.** The Dollar is the best product in the history of the world - there is infinite global demand. But International Fintechs and non-US banks are left with two unsatisfying options to access it: Either they build on legacy clearing banks that are slow and unreliable, or they interface with middleware providers that don’t move and hold the dollars directly, but themselves rely on underlying legacy banks. Augustus collapses this stack by combining two things: A real, national bank charter (in organization), and Marble, our proprietary core banking system, built around intelligence, made of code. We are a group of operators, unicorn early employees, ex-founders and people who walked away from degrees because they believe this is an industry and career defining opportunity. We are backed with more than $200M from Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures, Tiger Global, Hummingbird, QED, Creandum, and the founders of Nubank, Ramp, Deel, Circle, Fluidstack, Fuse, and n8n. We are regulated in Europe and live with Euro and Stablecoin clearing today. Now, we are building the US team from the ground up, while continuing to grow rapidly in Europe. # **The Role** We are hiring for our founding financial crimes compliance analyst, reporting to the Deputy Bank Secrecy Act Officer (DBSAO). This role is crucial to avoiding any transaction monitoring backlog, as these alerts require immediate review and disposition or escalation. You will be responsible for day to day alert clearing, and over time will move to case investigations & ultimately SAR filings. In addition, you support various crucial risk assessment and compliance workstreams by performing case reviews and trend analysis, preparing metrics and managing reports, as well as other operational tasks. This is an entry level role offering exciting development opportunities. If you have gained first work experience in an operational role across consulting or Fintech and are excited about the once in a lifetime opportunity to build a bank from scratch, this role is for you. # **Your First Six Months** - **Months 1-2:** You learn the Transaction Monitoring program and begin processing, reviewing and clearing alerts with supervision. - **Months 3-4:** You recommend adjustments to transaction monitoring rules based on analysis of false positives. - **Months 5-6:** You draft updated desktop guidance for case investigation while continuing to execute on alert escalation, SLA adherence and tuning. # **Who Will Thrive At Augustus** We believe that throwing smart people with high agency at big problems produces the best outcomes. We’re building a modern correspondent bank, and we win by having a better team. The people who succeed here share the following traits: - **American Dream:** You’d rather shoot for gold than settle for mediocrity. You pick the harder goal and stay optimistic when the odds are against you. If it feels easy, we aimed too low. - **Live Player:** You don’t need permission. You rebuild what’s broken without being asked, challenge how things are done, and move before the perfect moment. - **Ever to Excel:** You can’t accept good enough and you take your work personally. When it matters, you do what it takes and keep raising the bar for yourself and your team. - **Genuine:** You play for the company, not your title or turf. Low ego, low drama, no politics. You say it straight, also upwards and always assume good intent. **This role is for you if:** - You see an alert pattern of false positives, your first instinct is "What rule or model needs adjustment?", not "We need more analysts." - You want to be a part of building the BSA/AML engine, not maintain an existing one. Compliance not only executes the operation, we define the logic which drives the engine, and ultimately own the outcomes of every decision. - You get excited about identifying new typologies and providing the analytical fire power behind stopping them. When you see something that should have a new rule or model tied to it, you draft the requirements quickly and put in motion the deployment of what we need for the near and long term. - You are process driven and focus on the ultimate outcome, while also thinking about the most efficient and effective way to achieve those outcomes. **This is not for you if:** - You are looking to be a cog in a larger wheel. Our operation is lean by design, we are intentional and analytical with both resources and technology. - You’re at your best in environments where processes have been in place for years and are not open to disruption. - You crave manual effort over automated processes. # **Hard Requirements** - Exceptional English. - Based in New York or willing to relocate, able to start in October or November. - Experience working on data and trend analysis, as well as AI implementation. - Financial understanding, ideally in an international, high risk environment, is a plus. # **Pay transparency** Compensation packages at Augustus include base salary, equity, and benefits. New hire offers are made based on a candidate's experience, expertise and geographic location. The annual US base salary range for this role is $100,000-$150,000 + equity. # **What We Offer** - **Career Growth:** You will be given more responsibility and pushed to grow faster than ever before. - **Network:** Your peers are brilliant, highly motivated people. These people will be foundational in your future opportunities. - **Real Participation:** Employees are shareholders. You will think and act like an owner. - **Perks & Benefits:** Relocation support, visa support, the latest Apple gear (MacBook + AirPods), lunch benefit, gym benefit, a beautiful office in the heart of the city, 4x on-/offsites per year, and an annual development budget. Additional to the global benefits above, we offer localized benefits such as comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance and a 401(k) retirement plan for our US team. *Augustus is committed to creating an inclusive environment where people from all backgrounds can thrive and where different viewpoints and experiences are valued and respected. Augustus will consider all applications for employment without regard to race, ethnicity, national origin, religious beliefs, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, disability, age, parental or veteran status.*
