Job description
Long Wall Company was created in 2024 to accelerate missile defense technology for the U.S. and our allies. We specialize in ballistic missile defense and are developing Cyclops, a low-cost, mass-producible interceptor. We also produce containerized launchers and offer low-cost targets for threat replication. The future of global security depends on defensive technology that redefines cost, magazine depth, and distribution to deter and defend against evolving threats. Join us. **WHAT WE LOOK FOR** **Mission-Driven Problem Solvers** – The problems in missile defense demand ingenuity. We want engineers who approach challenges with curiosity, embrace failure as a learning opportunity, and stay focused on delivering the best solution for the mission. **Total Ownership** – We seek engineers who take full responsibility for delivering flight-ready work while recognizing that no one succeeds alone. The best engineers make their teammates better, knowing that complementary skills create force multiplication and drive mission success. ## **Fluid Components Engineer** Aerospace components require operation in extreme environments – high temperature, low temperature, high pressure, high vibration, high shock – and they must operate with absolute certainty. Whether it be a separation mechanism between stages or a solenoid valve controlling engine operation, Long Wall designs, produces, and tests the majority of its components in-house, and requires top talent to do so. ### RESPONSIBILITIES: - Own the development of critical engine components (e.g., chamber, injector, turbopumps) and/or systems (e.g., pressurization, attitude control). - Define top-level engineering requirements aligned with business and mission objectives. - Identify and evaluate design strategies, selecting optimal approaches to meet performance requirements. - Perform system sizing and analysis using hand calculations, custom scripts, and advanced simulation tools. - Develop streamlined workflows, processes, and tools to enhance design and production efficiency. - Execute detailed design work, considering manufacturing, operational, and reliability constraints. - Lead product development, testing, qualification, and integration. - Develop production methodologies and support initial hardware builds. - Design and fabricate test hardware and production tooling to validate designs ### BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: - B.S. in any engineering discipline from an accredited university. - 5+ years of industry experience in a related design or development role. ### PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCES: - **E**xperience with aerospace component technologies, including spring-energized seals, bearings, and force balances, as well as test and qualification best practices. - Proficiency in CAD design software (e.g., NX, CATIA, CREO/Pro-E). - Strong analytical capability using hand calculations and finite element analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS). - Familiarity with solenoid coil design processes and software (e.g., Maxwell). - Firm understanding of manufacturing processes, GD&T, and DFM principles. - Ability to develop scripts in Python or MATLAB for automation and analysis. - Strong understanding of compressible/incompressible flow dynamics and thermodynamics. - Demonstrated ability to write and execute test procedures for complex hardware operations. - Strong technical writing and communication skills for design reviews, test plans, and systems. ### ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time - Ability to use a computer to complete assignments - Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone, and telepresence - Ability to pick up to 12lbs - While performing the duties of this job, the employee will typically work in an office environment
