Forward Deployed Engineer

At Trunk Tools, we’re the leading AI company revolutionizing construction, the second-largest industry on earth. We recently raised a $40M Series B led by Insight Partners, bringing our total funding to $70M from top-tier investors including Redpoint and Innovation Endeavors. This new round is fueling our next phase of growth as we scale AI agents across the jobsite. Our mission is to build the future of construction through intelligent automation. Despite being a $13+ trillion industry, construction still runs largely on analog processes, we’re changing that by embedding AI directly into field operations. Founded by builders and technologists (Stanford, MIT), our team has delivered software used by over 140,000 field professionals, impacting millions of users and contributing to $10B+ in built projects. Many of us come from the field ourselves, giving us a deep understanding of the industry’s unique challenges. After years of building the “brain” of construction, we’re now launching production-ready AI agents, starting with intelligent document processing and Q&A, and rapidly expanding into core operational workflows. Our team has doubled in the past year, and with 100+ employees (50+ engineers), we’re scaling fast and entering a period of hypergrowth. This is a rare opportunity to join at an inflection point. ## **About the role** Forward Deployed Engineers are how Trunk Tools gets into the field. You'll embed directly with our general contractor customers, stand up Cortex and our agents inside their real projects, and own the work of turning a pilot into a result the customer can measure: submittal reviews cut from 54.8 days to 14, a 20-sheet bulletin reviewed in under 10 minutes instead of roughly 6 hours, RFIs answered before they're ever sent. This is an early-career role built for engineers who want to write real code, sit with real builders on real jobsites, and watch their work land in weeks, not quarters. You'll learn both the construction domain and the craft of deployment under experienced Forward Deployed Engineers, and everything you pick up in the field will flow straight back into the product. ## **What you'll do** - **Deploy Cortex and the agents into live projects.** Connect a customer's document set, integrate with the systems they already run (Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud), and configure the agents around how their teams actually work. - **Create new custom agents for use on live projects.** Leverage the Trunk Tools platform to create new agents for specific customer use cases that can be built, deployed, and used within a project, and used by the customer organization on multiple projects. - **Own the data-to-outcome loop for your accounts.** Get a working, measurable result on the customer's own drawings, specs, and submittals, fast, so the value is undeniable. - **Sit with the builders.** Spend time on jobsites and in trailers with project engineers, assistant project managers, and superintendents to learn their workflow and drive real adoption, not just a login. - **Write production-quality code.** Build the tooling that makes each deployment work, and make it hold up as something the platform can reuse rather than a one-off. - **Feed the field back into the product.** Bring what you learn to Product and Engineering so Cortex and the knowledge graph get sharper with every deployment. - **Partner with the account team.** Work alongside the deal owner from first proof through expanding across the customer's portfolio. ## **What we're looking for** - 0 to 3 years of software engineering experience with strong computer-science fundamentals. Recent graduates with substantial project or internship experience are encouraged to apply. - Working proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript, and comfort with APIs, data, and building integrations between systems. - Clear, direct communication and genuine comfort in front of customers. We hire engineer-diplomats: people who can write code in the morning and earn a superintendent's trust in the afternoon. - Willingness to travel to jobsites and customer offices, and real comfort working in the field, hard hat included. - A bias to action. You ship, you watch what breaks, you fix it, and you pick up a new domain quickly. - Low ego and a builder's respect for the people doing the work. ## **Bonus points** - Exposure to construction, architecture, or engineering, or genuine curiosity about how buildings get built. - Familiarity with data, machine learning, or retrieval systems. - Prior customer-facing, deployment, or forward-deployed work. - Hands-on experience with Procore or Autodesk Construction Cloud. ## **How we work** We live by three values, and this role touches all of them: - **Low Ego** - we learn what construction teams need directly from them, on the jobsite. This job is that value made literal. - **No BS** - we don't over-promise AI. Every result you deliver should tie to time saved, cost reduced, or work won, and it should be real. - **High Output** - we ship what we said we'd ship, when we said we'd ship it. **What we offer** 🎖️ A close-knit and collaborative early-stage startup environment where every voice is heard and every opinion matters 💰 Competitive salary and stock option equity packages 🏥 4 Medical Plans to choose from including 100% covered option. Plus Dental and Vision Insurance! 🤓 Learning & Growth stipend 🏠 Flexible long-term work options (remote and hybrid) 🥨 Free lunch provided in the office in NYC & Austin - you’ll never go hungry with us! 🛫 Unlimited PTO; We truly believe in work-life balance and that hard work should be balanced with time for rest and rejuvenation 🏝 IRL / In-Person retreats throughout the year ***Please note:** All official communication from Trunk Tools will come from an email address ending in **@***[******](http://trunk.tools)*.
