Forward Deployed Engineer (Founding)

Job description

**This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer (Founding) based in United Kingdom.** Join an innovative, fast-growing technology startup building infrastructure that enables developers to create powerful integrations between applications and AI agents. As a Founding Forward Deployed Engineer, you will combine hands-on full-stack engineering with direct customer engagement to help organizations successfully implement and scale their integrations. You will work closely with customers from initial technical evaluations through production deployment and ongoing optimization, solving complex challenges along the way. This is a highly collaborative, customer-facing role where your technical expertise and communication skills will be equally important. Beyond delivering tailored solutions, you will turn customer feedback into product improvements that benefit the broader developer community. Working within a small, experienced, remote-first engineering team, you will have a meaningful opportunity to influence product direction, technical decisions, and the company's growth. ### Accountabilities - **Customer engagement and technical guidance:** Work directly with customers throughout the implementation lifecycle, from initial technical evaluations to production deployment and ongoing support, ensuring successful adoption of the platform. - **Technical discovery and collaboration:** Lead customer calls, technical deep dives, and live pairing sessions to understand requirements, troubleshoot challenges, and guide developers toward effective implementation strategies. - **Integration development:** Build and maintain integrations with third-party APIs and external services, resolving complex implementation issues and ensuring reliable connectivity between applications and the systems they depend on. - **Full-stack engineering:** Design, develop, test, and deploy product improvements, taking ownership of solutions from initial discovery and technical design through implementation and release. - **Troubleshooting and problem-solving:** Investigate API behavior, integration failures, production issues, and platform limitations, delivering practical and scalable solutions to technical challenges. - **Customer communication and relationship management:** Maintain clear communication throughout projects, providing timely updates, setting realistic expectations, and outlining next steps to build trust and support customer success. - **Product strategy and innovation:** Translate recurring customer needs, technical challenges, and implementation feedback into actionable product recommendations that inform the roadmap and improve the overall developer experience. - **Cross-functional collaboration:** Partner closely with engineering and other relevant teams to prioritize customer needs, improve platform capabilities, and ensure solutions address both immediate requirements and long-term product goals. - **End-to-end ownership:** Manage multiple customer engagements simultaneously, prioritize competing requests, and ensure commitments are followed through reliably. ## Requirements - **Professional experience:** At least five years of full-stack software engineering experience, with a demonstrated ability to deliver production-ready solutions and manage technical projects end to end. - **Customer-facing engineering:** Experience working directly with customers or developers to understand technical requirements, guide implementations, resolve complex issues, and support successful product adoption. - **API and integration expertise:** Strong understanding of APIs, third-party integrations, authentication, data flows, and production system troubleshooting, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical problems. - **Full-stack development capabilities:** Proven ability to work across application layers, contribute to product design and architecture, and deliver reliable solutions from development through deployment. - **Technical communication:** Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts, communicate trade-offs clearly, and adapt explanations to different audiences. - **Customer relationship skills:** Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust, listen actively, understand customer pain points, and provide practical technical guidance. - **Product-oriented mindset:** Ability to translate individual customer requests into thoughtful, reusable product improvements that address broader needs rather than relying exclusively on one-off solutions. - **Prioritization and execution:** Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple customer priorities while maintaining high-quality delivery and consistent follow-through. - **Adaptability and ownership:** A proactive, hands-on approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to operate in a fast-moving startup environment and take responsibility for outcomes. - **Preferred experience:** Previous work with developer tools, integration platforms, customer-facing engineering, or similar technical products is an advantage. ## Benefits - **Competitive compensation:** Senior-level annual compensation ranging from **$120,000 to $200,000**, depending on experience and qualifications. - **Equity participation:** Equity compensation ranging from **0.05% to 0.15%**, offering the opportunity to participate in the company's long-term growth. - **Remote-first flexibility:** Work remotely from eligible locations across Canada, the United States, and Europe. - **High-impact ownership:** Join a small, experienced engineering team where your contributions can directly influence product development, customer outcomes, and technical strategy. - **Career growth:** Gain broad exposure to full-stack engineering, customer-facing technical leadership, product development, and integration architecture. - **Startup environment:** Work in a collaborative, fast-paced setting that values initiative, technical excellence, customer success, and continuous learning. - **Product influence:** Help shape the product roadmap by translating real-world customer challenges into scalable platform improvements. - **Flexible work environment:** Benefit from a remote working model that supports autonomy and close collaboration across international teams.
