Forward Deployed Systems Engineer

Job description

**This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Forward Deployed Systems Engineer based remotely in India.** We are seeking a hands-on engineer who combines software development, systems engineering, infrastructure management, and technical implementation expertise. In this role, you will build software components, configure and deploy systems, integrate applications, and solve complex technical challenges across application and infrastructure layers. You will work across coding, cloud environments, databases, networking, and DevOps to deliver practical, reliable solutions aligned with business needs. Collaborating directly with stakeholders and engineering teams, you will translate operational requirements into working technical implementations. You will also take ownership of troubleshooting, deployment, and ongoing system performance, from initial investigation through resolution. This opportunity is ideal for a versatile problem-solver who enjoys working across technologies, adapting to different environments, and delivering maintainable solutions in a remote engineering team. ### Accountabilities - **Systems engineering and infrastructure:** Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux servers and application environments. Manage cloud infrastructure, virtual machines, networking, DNS, firewalls, and SSL/TLS configurations while maintaining system reliability, performance, security, and availability. - **Software development:** Develop, maintain, and debug applications using Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript. Build backend services, REST APIs, scripts, and automation utilities, and implement fixes or new functionality in existing codebases. - **Database management:** Work with SQL databases, particularly PostgreSQL and MySQL, to support application development, data access, troubleshooting, and system integration. - **Deployment and DevOps:** Deploy and manage applications using Docker and container-based environments. Configure and maintain CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, environment variables, application configurations, and deployment processes. - **Operational reliability:** Troubleshoot build failures, runtime errors, unsuccessful deployments, and service interruptions. Implement monitoring, logging, backup, recovery, and operational procedures to improve system stability. - **System integration:** Translate business and operational requirements into practical technical solutions. Integrate applications with third-party APIs, databases, services, and external platforms across different infrastructure and operating environments. - **Stakeholder collaboration:** Work directly with stakeholders to clarify requirements, investigate technical issues, validate implementations, and ensure solutions address real-world operational needs. - **Product improvement:** Adapt existing software and develop supporting components to resolve implementation challenges. Share feedback with engineering teams to improve product functionality, reliability, and usability. - **Troubleshooting and root-cause analysis:** Investigate issues across application, infrastructure, database, and network layers. Identify underlying causes, implement sustainable corrective actions, and verify that problems have been resolved. - **Technical ownership and documentation:** Manage technical issues from investigation through implementation, testing, deployment, and resolution. Document system configurations, integrations, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting steps. - **Continuous improvement:** Identify opportunities to automate routine tasks and improve maintainability, security, performance, and operational efficiency. ## Requirements - A **bachelor’s degree** in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - **3–5 years of relevant experience** in systems engineering, software development, infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or a combination of these disciplines. - Strong hands-on programming skills in Python or JavaScript/TypeScript. - Practical experience administering and troubleshooting Linux environments. - Understanding of backend applications, REST APIs, databases, and software integration principles. - Experience with Docker, Git, and application deployment workflows. - Working knowledge of at least one major cloud platform, such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure. - Understanding of networking fundamentals, including HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, ports, firewalls, and SSL/TLS. - Experience working with SQL databases, preferably PostgreSQL or MySQL. - Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues across multiple technical layers. - Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take ownership of technical challenges from start to finish. - Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. - A practical engineering mindset focused on reliable, maintainable solutions rather than unnecessary complexity. - **Preferred qualifications:** - Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins. - Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform or Ansible. - Experience with monitoring, centralised logging, and performance troubleshooting. - Exposure to Kubernetes, distributed systems, background workers, or message queues. - Experience implementing integrations with external platforms and APIs. - Familiarity with AI/ML application deployment or large language model (LLM)-based systems. - Experience in roles involving direct technical implementation and stakeholder interaction. ## Benefits - **Employment type:** Full-time. - **Work arrangement:** Fully remote, based in India. - **Experience level:** Mid-level, with 3–5 years of relevant experience. - **Technical exposure:** Opportunities to work across software development, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, databases, networking, and system integration. - **Compensation:** Salary range and compensation structure were not specified in the job description. - **Additional benefits:** Healthcare, paid leave, equipment allowances, learning budgets, and other perks were not detailed and should be confirmed during the hiring process.
