Full-Stack Software Engineer

Job description

## About Matter Intelligence Welcome to Matter, where we are building the future of vision AI: pairing a world-first sensor that sees molecular chemistry, temperature, and 3D shape with a Large World Model that will be the most powerful intelligence engine for the physical world. This system doesn't just see what something looks like; it understands everything from a single pixel. We call this Superintelligent Vision. Our team has delivered technologies to Mars for NASA/JPL, designed advanced sensors for U.S. Defense, and frontier artificial intelligence systems. We are now building the next generation of space- and airborne-based sensing systems. ## About the Role Matter is hiring a Full-Stack Software Engineer to build the software that turns ultraspectral sensing data and AI models into intelligence products customers use to make operational decisions. This role will own work across web interfaces, backend services, APIs, and geospatial data workflows, partnering with product, design, AI, and data infrastructure from early prototypes through production deployments. ## Key Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain end-to-end product workflows across modern web interfaces, backend services, APIs, and data integrations. - Turn high-dimensional sensing data, geospatial context, and model outputs into clear, responsive applications for expert users. - Build backend services that support secure, reliable access to imagery, maps, analytical results, and customer-specific workflows. - Define and maintain interfaces between the product layer, data infrastructure, AI systems, and external customer systems. - Own software quality through automated testing, observability, performance tuning, CI/CD, documentation, and production support. - Work with product leaders, designers, engineers, and users to scope features, make tradeoffs, and deliver complete capabilities from problem definition through deployment. ## Qualifications ### Required - 3+ years of experience building and operating full-stack software products or equivalent production systems. - Strong frontend development skills with JavaScript or TypeScript, React, and modern web application patterns. - Experience building backend APIs and services with Python and frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask. - Experience deploying and operating cloud services in AWS, including containerized or serverless workloads, queues, and relational databases such as Postgres. - Experience working with geospatial data, spatial databases, or processing tools such as PostGIS, GDAL, cloud-optimized GeoTIFFs, or NetCDF. - Strong software design, testing, debugging, and communication skills, with the ability to own work across technical boundaries. ### Preferred - Experience with Mapbox, TiTiler, tile servers, or other geospatial visualization and delivery systems. - Experience integrating AI or machine-learning outputs, including language-model capabilities, into production software. - Familiarity with remote sensing, spectral imagery, or industrial and scientific data workflows. - Experience delivering customer-facing products in an early-stage company or other fast-moving technical environment. ## What Success Looks Like - Users can move from complex sensing data and model outputs to clear workflows that support operational decisions. - Product interfaces and backend services remain performant, observable, and reliable as deployments move from pilots into production. - Shared interfaces, components, tests, and documentation reduce integration work and help the team ship new capabilities faster. ## Location This role is based in El Segundo, CA, and requires onsite work. ## ITAR Requirements To comply with U.S. export regulations, applicants must be one of the following: - A U.S. citizen or national - A lawful permanent resident (green card holder) - Eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State ## Employee Offerings and Benefits At Matter, we believe in rewarding high performance and providing the support you need to thrive. Our compensation and benefits package includes: - Competitive compensation based on experience - Early-stage equity package - 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision coverage - Opportunity to work on novel sensing, data, and AI systems with real-world deployment paths to the largest industries in the world Matter Intelligence is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds who can raise the ambition and performance of the team.
