**Future Music Teacher Opportunities** **Location:** Philadelphia, PA **Compensation:** $55,000 - $88,000 (more details below) **Contact:**jobs@hebrewpublic.org **About Hebrew Public** Hebrew Public is a small and growing network of schools operated by Hebrew Public: Charter Schools for Global Citizens. Hebrew Public is a secular organization that welcomes candidates of all backgrounds into a supportive and inclusive community. Across the network, Hebrew Public schools serve children from all backgrounds and help students become global citizens who are strong problem solvers, aware communicators, and lifelong learners committed to making a positive difference in the world around them. Our schools are models of racial and economic integration, academic excellence, and world language learning. **Why PHP?** As part of Hebrew Public, Philadelphia Hebrew Public (PHP) teachers and staff bring our mission to life with students from more than 40 zip codes across Philadelphia, primarily Black and Brown students whose brilliance, curiosity, and potential drive our work every day. PHP is rooted in the belief that every student deserves excellent teachers and an outstanding education. Through rigorous academics, strong relationships, and a globally minded education, we help students expand what they see as possible for themselves. We also invest in educators. Teachers receive coaching, collaborative planning, professional development, and certification support. Our compensation model recognizes teacher skill, growth, and classroom impact, not simply years of experience. After their first year, eligible teachers may qualify for 5% up to 10% annual salary increases based on their impact in the classroom, without needing additional graduate coursework. For educators who want to make a meaningful difference while growing their own careers, PHP offers the opportunity to do both. ***You don’t need to speak Hebrew to apply, and we strongly encourage candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups to join our community.*** **The Opportunity** We are always open to connecting with creative, talented, and student-centered musicians and educators who may be a strong fit for future **Contemporary Music Teacher** positions. Philadelphia's education community is a small world, and we value building relationships with talented music educators, even when we do not have an immediate opening. This evergreen posting allows us to build those connections, with applications reviewed as staffing needs arise. Our Talent Team may reach out to candidates whose skills and experience align with future opportunities. The Contemporary Music Teacher at PHP inspires students to discover the joy of making music, develop instrumental skills, and build confidence through hands-on, performance-based instruction across multiple grade levels. Students learn to play keyboards, drums, and guitar while developing the skills to perform together in small bands and musical ensembles. We seek educators who can connect with students through the music they know and love, including hip-hop, R&B, pop, and other contemporary genres. The ideal candidate brings musical versatility, creativity, and enthusiasm for helping students learn by doing. Rather than emphasizing traditional band, orchestral instruction, or music theory, this role focuses on practical musicianship, rhythm, collaboration, improvisation, and performance. Through rehearsals, collaborative music-making, and school-wide performances, students have opportunities to explore their musical interests, develop their individual talents, and experience the excitement of creating music together. **What You'll Do** - Plan and deliver engaging, performance-based music instruction across multiple grade levels. - Teach students foundational skills on keyboards, drums, and guitar through hands-on practice and age-appropriate activities. - Lead small-group band experiences where students learn to play together, maintain rhythm, listen to one another, and develop ensemble skills. - Incorporate hip-hop, R&B, pop, and other contemporary musical genres that reflect students' interests and cultural experiences. - Teach practical musical skills, including rhythm, chords, basic song structure, improvisation, and performance techniques. - Encourage student creativity through collaborative music-making, songwriting, arranging, and opportunities to explore different instruments. - Differentiate instruction to support students with varying musical experience, abilities, language backgrounds, and learning needs. - Establish a joyful, inclusive, and well-managed classroom with clear routines, high expectations, and safe use of instruments and equipment. - Assess student progress, provide meaningful feedback, and celebrate musical growth. - Organize student band performances, showcases, and school-wide musical experiences that build community. - Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues. **Professional Responsibilities** - Model Hebrew Public's OLAM values: outstanding problem solving, continuous learning, making a difference, and intentional communication. - Participate in collaborative planning, professional development, and school-wide initiatives. - Reflect on instructional practice and seek opportunities for continued professional growth. - Support school-wide expectations, priorities, and community-building activities. **Who You Are** - Deep belief in the limitless potential of Black and Brown students and commitment to helping them thrive as global citizens. - Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required. - Pennsylvania teaching certification in Music, or active progress toward appropriate certification, is preferred. - Experience working in urban school communities is preferred. - Experience teaching music to elementary and/or middle school students strongly preferred. - Practical proficiency with keyboards, drums, and/or guitar, with the ability to teach beginning musicians and lead collaborative band experiences. - Experience performing, rehearsing, or leading small bands or contemporary musical ensembles. - Familiarity with hip-hop, R&B, pop, and other contemporary musical styles, and an ability to connect instruction to students' musical interests. - Ability to teach music through hands-on experiences, listening, playing, improvisation, and performance rather than relying primarily on traditional notation or music theory. - Commitment to culturally responsive instruction that celebrates students' musical interests, identities, and experiences. - Strong classroom management skills and ability to create an engaging, inclusive learning environment. - Ability to differentiate instruction for students with varied musical abilities, backgrounds, and learning needs. **Career Development and Support** At PHP, we value educators' professional growth and provide opportunities to collaborate, strengthen their practice, and advance their careers. - Professional development opportunities to support continued learning and instructional growth. - Collaborative planning and opportunities to share ideas and effective practices with colleagues. - An on-site team of Climate staff and Social Workers to support students and families. - Opportunities to apply for funds to support pathways toward teacher certification. - Opportunities for career advancement and leadership development as available. **Our Commitment** We are committed to building a team that reflects the communities we serve.
