Our state-of-the-art birthing units, offer parents the comforts of a safe, family-centered atmosphere to welcome their new babies into the world. The nursing staff is highly skilled in labor, postpartum and newborn assessment, and care. They are also specially trained and certified in Advanced Fetal Monitoring. Board–certified anesthesiologists are available 24-hours-a-day, and board-certified obstetricians make daily rounds. The Registered Nurse in the New Beginnings Family Birthing Units are responsible for providing individualized family centered care during the antepartum, intrapartum, & postpartum periods. HOSPITAL LOCATIONS: Will vary by campus availability Allentown Campus Anderson Campus, Easton Grand View Campus, Sellersville Upper Bucks Campus, Quakertown QUALIFICATIONS: Nursing Student with prospective Spring/Summer/Winter graduation dates who will be eligible to sit for NCLEX and obtain licensure before start of Internship. Nursing Student/GN: Must have employment experience working in an L&D unit or a scheduled Senior Practicum in an L&D unit or have a minimum of a 3.2 GPA. Experienced RN that has not worked in the L&D setting. OVERVIEW: What St. Luke's Labor and Delivery RN Internship Offers: ​The Length of the internship program is Full Time competency-based and is tailored to each individual adult learner. Dedicated Education Team Bridging the Preparation to Practice Gap Support Transition from Novice to Advanced Beginner A Progressive Arrangement of Seminars, Workshops, Supervised hands-on trainings, Simulation, and Clinical Observations Clinical Preceptorship Cultivate Leadership, Team Building, & Conflict Management AWHONN'S Perinatal Orientation & Education Program Oriented to Couplet Care, Labor, Operating Room and Infant Resuscitation 50.2 CEs The Labor and Delivery RN Internship is conducted at various sites within the St. Luke’s University Health Network and is supervised by the Labor and Delivery RN Internship coordinator. Upon successful completion of the Labor and Delivery RN Internship Program, the intern will work in a St. Luke's Labor and Delivery Department where he/she will practice caring for patients across their lifespans. ​ JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES The Maternal/Neonatal nurse is responsible for coordinating and providing individualized quality patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, documentation and evaluation. Formulates collaborative and individualized plan of care and identifies expected patient outcomes, using the nursing process and patient birth plan. Works cooperatively with ancillary, nursing and other patient-team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information. Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external). Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code. Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Maintain current BLS certification. EDUCATION: Registered Nurse with current license to practice in the State of Pennsylvania. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Stand for up to 10 hours per day; 8 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day; 10 minutes at a time. Consistently lift, carry and push objects up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lift, carry and push objects up to 75 lbs. Transports patients weighing up to 500 lbs. via wheelchair, bed and/or stretcher. Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above should level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.
