Hardware Configuration & Change Management Specialist

Job description

## **About Pacific Fusion** Pacific Fusion was founded in 2023 with the mission to power the world with abundant, affordable, clean energy. We are rapidly designing and building a pulser-driven inertial fusion system to achieve net facility gain (more fusion energy output than stored energy input). In parallel, we are developing the key components required to build affordable fusion systems. Our plans are ambitious. We have raised over $900M so far from incredible investors, resourcing us to deliver on these plans. We are bringing together the best scientists, engineers, and operators from the fusion community, hard tech industry, and other sectors. We are united by a shared sense of urgency to provide clean power for the world, particularly managing climate change while meeting growing global energy demand. You can read more about us in [this letter from our founders](https://www.pacificfusion.com/resources/founders-letter). # **Why This Role Matters** As a Hardware Configuration & Change Management Specialist, you will be the backbone of engineering integrity across our fusion demonstration system. Thousands of custom mechanical and electrical assemblies, subject to constant design iteration, must remain traceable, releasable, and buildable at all times. You will own the processes and tools — centered on Windchill — that keep our hardware baseline accurate as the design evolves at startup speed. This is a high-impact role at the interface of engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain, ensuring that the right revision of the right part reaches the floor every time ## **What You'll Do** - Use our Windchill PLM system as the single source of truth for part numbers, CAD data, BOMs, and released documentation, keeping records accurate and up to date - Manage the full engineering change lifecycle — ECRs, ECOs, and deviations — driving changes through review, approval, and release with rigor and urgency - Establish and enforce configuration baselines for hardware assemblies and subsystems, ensuring as-designed, as-built, and as-maintained records stay in sync - Partner directly with design engineers to structure BOMs, part numbering schemes, and CAD/PLM workflows that scale with a rapidly growing hardware organization - Coordinate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to assess change impact, manage effectivity dates, and prevent disruption to build schedules - Audit configuration data for accuracy and completeness, identifying and resolving discrepancies before they affect procurement or assembly - Develop and deliver training on Windchill workflows and change processes to engineers and technicians across the organization - Support internal and customer audits by producing clean, traceable configuration and change history records ## **What You Bring** - 4+ years of experience in hardware configuration management, engineering change management in a hardware-intensive environment - Hands-on, working knowledge of PTC Windchill (workflows, BOM management, change objects, and lifecycle states) is required - Solid understanding of engineering change processes (ECR/ECO/ECN) and configuration management principles for complex, multi-revision hardware - Comfort reading mechanical and electrical drawings and BOMs well enough to assess the impact of a proposed change - Proactive, "DOer," and self-starter capable of navigating the ambiguity of a first-of-a-kind research project - A positive attitude and the ability to influence cross-functional teams of scientists, engineers, and technicians - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail ## ## **Bonus Points For** - Experience with configuration management in a highly-regulated, first-of-a-kind, or national laboratory environment (e.g., SNL, LANL, LLNL) - ASQ CQE, CMPIC, or similar configuration/change management certification Pay Range: $180,000—$230,000 USD ### **TOTAL COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS FOR ELIGIBLE EMPLOYEES** - Industry-competitive salary - Equity plan - 6% employer 401k matching - Generous paid time off (including sick leave, vacation, paid family leave) - Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance *Actual base salary offered will be determined by: experience, skills, and work location. This range is for base salary, our total compensation includes equity and benefits.
