Head of City Operations

Job description

Ever imagined saying, “I helped launch the future of transportation”? We’re rewriting the rules of urban mobility. At Vay, customers tap a button and a car arrives - with no one inside - powered by our world-first Remote Driving technology on real public streets. We’re live in Las Vegas and scaling fast, powered by a strategic investment of up to $410 million from [Grab](https://www.grab.com/sg/). Our mission is simple: replace private car ownership with a faster, cleaner, door-to-door mobility model. If you want to build something real, visible, and genuinely transformative, you’ll feel right at home here. #### **What’s happening at Vay** - First to roll out vehicles in both Europe and the USA on public roads without a human being inside & currently the 2nd largest commercial, driverless car fleet in the Western World. - We've partnered with [Kodiak](https://kodiak.ai/) to bring remote-driving technology to autonomous trucks in the US, showcasing our ability to integrate our system into heavy-duty commercial vehicles and expand the applications of our tech across the US. - We’ve completed over 150,000 trips so far and are busy multiplying our Las Vegas fleet just to meet demand! - **...And soon we’ll be expanding across the US & Europe 🚀** #### ***Why this role is exciting*** We are looking for a strategic, analytical, and highly hands-on-in-the-right-places **Head of City Operations** to own the performance and scalability of Vay’s Las Vegas operation. This role is broader than fleet management. You will design and continuously improve the operating system that connects vehicles, people, infrastructure, vendors, and technology. You will be accountable for making sure vehicles are available when needed, Field Support time is used effectively, operational decisions are grounded in data, and the city is prepared to support reliable growth. You will lead the evolution of our operating model as Vay scales—from defining how daily work gets done in Las Vegas to creating the playbooks, standards, and infrastructure requirements that can be reused in future markets. #### ***What you’ll be driving*** **City and Fleet Operations:** - Own the operating model and performance of Vay’s Las Vegas city operation. - Establish the processes, standards, priorities, and operating rhythms that support safe and reliable service. - Partner with cross-functional teams to improve fleet availability, utilization, reliability, and overall operational performance. - Identify recurring challenges and drive solutions that improve the system over time. **Field Support Leadership:** - Use data and frontline feedback to identify opportunities to improve productivity, coverage, and the overall employee experience. - Build clear expectations, training approaches, and development opportunities as the team grows. **Innovation and Operational Strategy** - Identify and test new ways to improve the efficiency, flexibility, and scalability of city operations. - Shape the long-term strategy for charging, vehicle support, facilities, and other operational infrastructure as the fleet expands. - Evaluate operational tradeoffs across cost, service quality, safety, capacity, and scalability. - Introduce tools, systems, automation, and processes that reduce friction and improve decision-making. **Market Expansion and Partnerships** - Translate market requirements into practical plans for staffing, fleet support, infrastructure, vendors, safety, and service delivery. - Develop repeatable operating playbooks and standards that can be adapted across markets. - Build and manage relationships with vendors, infrastructure providers, service partners, and other external stakeholders. **Performance, Safety, and Continuous Improvement** - Define the metrics and reporting needed to understand city performance and guide priorities. - Establish a culture of accountability, operational discipline, and continuous improvement. - Partner with Safety, Legal, Engineering, Fleet, Commercial Operations, Finance, and other teams to manage risk and resolve operational blockers. - Support effective incident response, business continuity, and safe working practices across the operation. #### ***What are we looking for*** - A track record of building, improving, or scaling an operation where processes and systems were still evolving. - Experience leading and developing teams that operate across shifts, locations, or field environments. - Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data to identify priorities, measure performance, and make sound decisions. - Experience improving operational efficiency, workforce productivity, service quality, reliability, or cost. - Experience managing vendors, partners, or service providers and holding them accountable to clear expectations. - The ability to think strategically while staying close enough to execution to understand what is happening in the operation. - Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to align technical, operational, and executive audiences. - A builder’s mindset, with the creativity, judgment, and resilience to create structure in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment. - Willingness to work **on-site** in Las Vegas and travel to support future market launches as needed. #### ***Why choose Vay*** 💪 A global team of smart, motivated people from 30+ countries who love tackling hard problems and turning bold ideas into reality. 🌍 Huge scope for impact in a fast paced environment 💰 Stock Options: A stake in Vay’s future - not just a salary. 🌴 FlexiblePaid Vacation Days 🎫 401(k) programme 🏥 Health, Dental & Vision Insurance 🚗 All Vay team members receive 30% off their Vay rides 🏋️‍♂️ Wellness Hub free gym access & wellness app subscriptions 🛍️ Exclusive external discounts ✈️ Relocation financial assistance when relocating to Las Vegas 🎊 Regular team events throughout the year For more information on Vay’s physical demands, working environments and safety requirements, you can review this [link](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1swEohclBwsOgx37G4NHE2szYCA6avS_aQX_WSJ7Ih8k/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.6dlrur2mwcd9).
