Job description

**This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Content and Editorial based remotely in the United States.** The Head of Content and Editorial will shape the content strategy and editorial standards of a growing, product-focused technology business. This leadership role combines exceptional writing and editing skills with strategic thinking, team development, and a strong focus on measurable performance. You will lead a small team of talented writers, ensuring every piece of content is clear, engaging, accurate, and valuable to its intended audience. AI-assisted content creation will be central to your approach, helping you improve efficiency without compromising quality or editorial integrity. Working closely with executive leadership, marketing, and product teams, you will align content initiatives with customer needs and business objectives. This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of editorial direction, experiment with new approaches, and demonstrate how outstanding content can drive meaningful results. ### Accountabilities: You will own the editorial vision, content quality, and performance of content initiatives, combining strategic direction with hands-on editing and continuous experimentation. Your main responsibilities will include: - **Content Strategy and Editorial Direction:** Define what content should be created, who it should serve, and how it supports business objectives, customer needs, and product positioning. - **Editorial Quality and Standards:** Establish and maintain high editorial standards, reviewing and refining content to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, engagement, and practical value for readers. - **Hands-On Editing and Copywriting:** Improve drafts through thoughtful editing, restructuring, and rewriting, identifying opportunities to strengthen messaging, storytelling, readability, and overall impact. - **AI-Assisted Content Creation:** Develop and optimize AI-supported content workflows that improve productivity while ensuring outputs meet rigorous editorial standards and provide genuine value to readers. - **Writer Management and Development:** Lead a small team of skilled writers, providing editorial guidance, constructive feedback, and clear expectations to strengthen individual capabilities and overall content quality. - **Content Performance and Analytics:** Monitor content results, interpret performance metrics, identify successful approaches, and use data to guide editorial decisions and improve outcomes. - **Experimentation and Continuous Improvement:** Test new content formats, topics, messaging, and production methods, learn from unsuccessful experiments, and scale approaches that demonstrate positive results. - **Cross-Functional Collaboration:** Partner with marketing, product teams, and executive leadership to understand the products, audience, and business priorities, ensuring content remains relevant and aligned with organizational goals. - **Editorial Ownership and Decision-Making:** Work independently, identify opportunities proactively, make informed decisions, and take responsibility for both content quality and performance. - **Content Excellence:** Build a culture focused on exceptional writing, strong editorial judgment, continuous learning, and meaningful business impact rather than simply maximizing content volume. **Requirements:** The ideal candidate is an experienced editorial leader with excellent writing instincts, a proven ability to develop talented writers, and the strategic judgment to turn high-quality content into measurable business results. You should be comfortable combining hands-on editorial work with team leadership, AI-assisted production, and data-driven decision-making. Key qualifications include: - **Editorial Leadership:** Demonstrated experience managing small teams of skilled writers and maintaining consistently high standards of content quality. - **Exceptional Editing and Copywriting:** Outstanding writing, editing, and copywriting skills, with the ability to recognize strong content, identify weaknesses, and transform drafts into polished, compelling material. - **AI Content Expertise:** Practical experience using AI tools to create, edit, and improve content efficiently while maintaining accuracy, originality, clarity, and editorial quality. - **Performance and Analytical Skills:** Comfort working with content metrics, evaluating results, identifying patterns, and using performance data to inform strategic and editorial decisions. - **Strong Editorial Judgment:** Well-developed editorial intuition built through substantial experience, with the confidence to make decisions, test new ideas, and evaluate their effectiveness. - **Technology and SaaS Experience:** Background in technology, software, SaaS, or technical content, with the ability to understand complex products and communicate their value clearly. - **Strategic Thinking:** Ability to connect editorial priorities with customer needs, product positioning, marketing objectives, and broader business goals. - **Independent Execution:** A proactive, hands-on working style, with the ability to take ownership, solve problems, and deliver results without requiring detailed instructions. - **Collaboration and Curiosity:** Genuine interest in understanding products, customers, and business models, alongside the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders. - **Commitment to Quality:** Experience in high-quality editorial environments where excellent writing, thoughtful editorial decisions, and measurable outcomes are prioritized over producing large volumes of content. **Benefits:** - **Remote Work:** Flexibility to work remotely and organize your working environment. - **Editorial Ownership:** Significant autonomy to shape content strategy, establish editorial standards, and influence the organization's approach to content creation. - **Executive Exposure:** Direct collaboration with the CEO, marketing team, and product teams. - **AI-Driven Innovation:** The opportunity to shape how AI is used to create, edit, and improve high-quality content. - **Freedom to Experiment:** Scope to test new ideas, make independent decisions, and measure the impact of your work. - **Meaningful Impact:** The opportunity to contribute directly to the growth and success of established software products used by customers worldwide. - **People-Centered Environment:** A workplace that values its team members and offers perks and benefits designed to support professional and personal well-being. - **Established, Self-Funded Business:** The opportunity to contribute to a profitable, independently funded product company with a long-standing presence in the technology market.
