**This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Inpatient Audit Specialist PRN based in the United States.** This is a fully remote opportunity for an experienced inpatient coding and auditing professional supporting healthcare organizations with high-quality, compliant coding practices. You will conduct facility inpatient coding audits across onboarding, focused reviews, service-level agreements, and other specialized engagements. The role combines detailed chart review with clear, evidence-based recommendations and coder education. You will work with MS-DRG and APR-DRG methodologies while identifying coding opportunities, discrepancies, and areas for improvement. Success requires strong judgment, excellent query-writing abilities, and the ability to manage multiple cases while maintaining accuracy and turnaround expectations. This PRN position offers a flexible schedule, with a preference for approximately 20 hours per week, and spinal auditing experience is a plus. You will also contribute to a collaborative, service-oriented environment focused on coding excellence, compliance, and continuous professional development. ### Accountabilities: - Conduct inpatient facility coding audits according to defined scopes of work, including onboarding reviews, focused audits, service-level agreement assessments, and other specialized review types, applying appropriate codes and coding-related elements under MS-DRG or APR-DRG methodologies. - Provide clear, concise, and well-supported rationale for identified coding changes, referencing relevant documentation and the specific location of supporting evidence within the medical record. - Identify coding quality, compliance, and workflow opportunities while providing meaningful recommendations that address customer needs and support improved outcomes. - Deliver coder education through the auditing process, helping reinforce accurate coding practices, regulatory compliance, and professional standards. - Stay current with applicable regulatory and coding changes and incorporate updated requirements into audit activities and recommendations. - Manage and prioritize multiple cases concurrently to maintain efficient workflows, quality standards, and expected turnaround times. - Demonstrate sound judgment when handling high-complexity coding decisions and communicate findings professionally, efficiently, and constructively. - Maintain adherence to the American Health Information Management Association’s professional code of ethics and uphold a strong commitment to accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and service. - Collaborate effectively with colleagues and customers while demonstrating dependability, flexibility, organization, teamwork, leadership, and a continuous desire to learn. ### Requirements - Bring at least 5 years of facility inpatient coding and/or inpatient auditing experience, with strong knowledge of complex inpatient coding and auditing practices. - Hold a **Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)** credential, which is required; RHIA or RHIT certification is preferred. - Demonstrate the ability to maintain a **95% DRG accuracy rate** and consistently apply sound coding judgment. - Have strong knowledge of MS-DRG and/or APR-DRG methodologies and experience reviewing inpatient medical records for coding accuracy and compliance. - Possess excellent query-writing skills and the ability to develop concise, well-supported explanations for coding recommendations. - Experience with spinal cases or spinal auditing is a plus. - Be comfortable working with healthcare technology and electronic medical record systems, including **Epic, Cerner, and other commonly used EMRs**. - Demonstrate strong organizational, analytical, communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of professionalism. - Be customer-service oriented, flexible, dependable, detail-focused, and committed to coding excellence and continued professional development. - Be legally authorized to work in the United States; this position is **not eligible for employment sponsorship**. ### Benefits - **Estimated pay:** $35–$45 USD per hour, depending on location, responsibilities, skills, experience, and other role requirements. - **PRN flexibility:** Flexible remote scheduling, with a preference for approximately 20 hours per week. - **Remote work:** Perform the role from your own workspace within the United States. - **401(k):** PRN employees are eligible for a 401(k) savings plan with company matching. - **Equipment provided:** Laptop, monitor, mouse, headset, and keyboard. - **Professional training:** Comprehensive training led by a credentialed professional coding manager. - **Mentorship:** Service-oriented management and ongoing professional support designed to help you succeed. - **Meaningful healthcare impact:** Contribute to coding quality, compliance, education, and improved healthcare data accuracy.
