Job Title: Intern, Photonics Engineer Job Code: 44160 Job Location: Palm Bay, FL Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days – totaling 80 hours worked, and have every other Friday off Job Description: Help turn photonics theory into measured performance. As a Photonics Engineering Intern, you will contribute to laboratory experiments and technical analysis supporting advanced optical communications, fiber-optic systems, acousto-optics, RF photonics, or quantum technologies. Essential Functions: Set up, execute, and document laboratory experiments on photonic components and systems. Collect and analyze measurement data; identify trends and recommend follow-on work. Support test setup, instrumentation, alignment, and troubleshooting. Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate and validate mature photonic designs at subsystem and system levels under the guidance of experienced engineers. Qualifications: To be eligible, candidate's must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Computer Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. Preferred Skills: Experience with fiber optics, optical communications, RF systems, acousto-optics, quantum science, or precision measurement. Experience with optical, electronic, or RF laboratory instrumentation. Python, MATLAB, or comparable data-analysis and automation experience. Foundational knowledge of optics, electromagnetics, communications, electronics, or physics. Coursework, research, internships, design teams, or laboratory projects involving experimental measurement, data analysis, or technical problem solving.
