Position Summary:The Biology Department seeks a responsible and skillful Lab Manager for its laboratories. A full-time, 12-month position, the Lab Manager for Biology Laboratories will oversee the laboratory teaching support needs, including specimen preparations, laboratory equipment set-up and lab clean-up. Responsibilities:Oversee biology laboratory preparations, equipment setup and lab cleanup for all biology courses. Oversee departmental student lab assistants. Collaborates with the lab safety officer to ensure safe lab operations. Oversees biology lab equipment and instrumentation. Coordinates appropriate preventative maintenance for departmental equipment (e.g. sterilizer, dishwater, etc.). Removal of all biological and chemical waste materials including animal cage bedding and human cadaver waste. Aids in care and removal of all live and preserved animals and plants. Support faculty in the teaching of laboratories including setup and take down of lab experiments Coordinates the ordering of supplies to support teaching and research in the department. Attends and give reports at biology department meetings regarding labs and safety. Works with Physical Plant to ensure that Biology labs are in good working condition.
