Lead Platform Engineer - Sweden

Job description

**About Allica Bank** Allica is the UK’s fastest growing company - and the fastest-growing financial technology (Fintech) firm ever. Our purpose is to help established SMEs, one of the last major underserved opportunities in Fintech. Established SMEs are the backbone of local communities - representing over a third of our economy - yet have been largely neglected both by traditional high street banks and modern fintech providers. **Be the first. Make it work for Sweden.** It's not every day you get the chance to help build a new bank. Allica Bank is expanding into Sweden, and we're looking for someone to take our proven UK tech stack and shape it into the secure, compliant platform that Allica Bank Sweden will run on. Allica is a UK bank that backs established SMEs, the businesses that form the backbone of local communities and have too often been overlooked by traditional banks and fintechs. In the UK, Allica has quickly become one of the fastest-growing fintech firms. Now we're bringing that model and ambition to Sweden, building on the technology that already powers Allica in the UK. **Role Description** As our founding Lead Platform Engineer in Sweden, you'll set the technical foundation for Allica Bank Sweden's cloud self-service platform and be personally accountable for it. You'll report directly to the CTO and work closely with our UK Platform Engineering Team on shared standards and tooling. The UK stack gives us a strong starting point, but it won't transfer seamlessly. Much will need to be adapted and developed along the way, and you'll be the one deciding where to align with the UK and where to deliberately diverge. This is a hands-on role. You'll build alongside the team, make consequential technical calls independently from day one, and mentor platform engineers as the function grows. Your customers are internal: product and data engineering teams choose whether to use what you build, so adoption is what we measure. We're in start-up mode in Sweden, so expect a fast-moving environment with a lot of ownership. **Principal Accountabilities** - Own Allica Sweden's instance of the Allica platform, adapting the UK stack for Sweden: landing zones, subscriptions, network topology, container runtime and resilience patterns. - Build the reusable core: Terraform modules, deployment templates and platform services that let product teams self-serve production-grade infrastructure. - Deliver all infrastructure through Terraform and secure CI/CD, so every change is automated, repeatable and reversible. - Embed security, governance and compliance into the platform, with auditable evidence rather than just intent. - Own reliability and run cost, lead the response to complex incidents, and drive out repeat causes rather than repeat fixes. - Lead and mentor platform engineers while staying personally hands-on in architecture and the hardest technical problems. **Personal Attributes & Experience** - A strong track record of architecting and running production cloud environments at scale, with production accountability for systems that matter. - Extensive cloud experience. We work with Azure as our primary cloud, with GCP as our secondary cloud. - Fluency in landing zone and subscription design, private networking, containerized compute, API management and resilience patterns. - Extensive hands-on experience with Terraform, identity and observability at scale. - A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. - Fluent English. - A pragmatic mindset: you prefer the boring, well-understood solution, you design for adoption rather than mandate, and you treat regulation as a design input. You're comfortable with ambiguity and don't get stuck searching for the perfect solution. **Nice to have:** Experience in regulated industries, Kubernetes and serverless, Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, and FinOps and operational resilience. **Working at Allica Bank** At Allica Bank we want to ensure our employees have the right tools and environment in which to succeed in their role and in support of our customers. Our employees are at the heart of everything we do, so our benefits are designed with you in mind: - Full onboarding support and continued development opportunities - Options for flexible working - Regular social activities - Pension contributions - Discretionary bonus scheme - Private health cover - Life assurance - Family friendly policies including enhanced Maternity & Paternity leave **Don’t tick every box?** Don’t worry if you don’t have all the skills or requirements listed on the job description. If you think you’ll be a good fit, we’d still love to hear from you! **Flexible working** We know the ‘9-to-5’ isn’t right for everyone. That’s why Allica Bank is fully committed to flexible and hybrid working. Please let us know what is best for you and, if we can, we will do our best to accommodate. **Diversity** We’re a diverse bunch here at Allica, with all kinds of experiences, backgrounds and lifestyles. Our openness and differences make us stronger, and we want everybody to feel comfortable bringing as much of themselves to work with them as they like.
