Job Title Manager, Corporate Actuarial, Actuarial Analytics & Insights (S&R) Job Description The Team The Actuarial Analytics & Insights, S&R team forms part of the Corporate Actuarial (CA) function within Divisional Business Services (DBS) and is responsible for the Savings and Retirement (S&R) business. The S&R Line of Business delivers funded and non-funded reinsurance solutions to global insurance clients, catering for the increasing demand from clients in various jurisdictions for innovative reinsurance support that can transfer both longevity and asset risk. The team are responsible for performing analysis and communicating insights in relation to both the in-force book and new business. This includes working across US GAAP, US Statutory (US STAT), Internal Economic Capital (EC) and Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) reporting bases, as well as any applicable local reporting bases. The team’s focus is on developing a deep understanding of both the asset and liability side of the balance sheets, delivering value-add outcomes that support S&R and wider PL Re’s strategic priorities. The team will interact closely with S&R and will be a key part of DBS and PL Re, interacting with CA (including the Valuation team and Actuarial Systems Team), Operations, Finance, R&D, and Pricing. The Role Based in either London or Toronto, we have an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong actuarial background and relevant experience to join the Corporate Actuarial function as a Manager, focusing on local reporting bases for the Savings & Retirement (S&R) business. Reporting to the AVP, Actuarial Analytics & Insights, S&R, this role offers a challenging variety of work, exposure to senior management and excellent opportunities to make positive contributions to S&R and CA. The role requires a good understanding of S&R products, particularly in respect of reporting and balance sheet impacts, as the successful individual will play a key role in offering insights on the quarterly results to senior management. In the short-term, there will be a focus on understanding IFRS17 and LICAT in respect of the business written into the local Canadian branch. Given S&R’s ambitions to grow in scale and geographically, this role will also be responsible for understanding any additional local reporting bases that may be applicable to S&R business going forwards. In addition to strong technical understanding, the role requires strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex topics to a wide range of audiences. As part of this role, you will work with other functions within DBS and work with other Corporate Actuarial teams across Pacific Life. Similarly, you will work closely with the S&R Line of Business team, contributing to PL Re’s success in what is a growing and dynamic marketplace. Strong communication skills, ability to understand new concepts and strong problem-solving skills are therefore required to ensure reporting challenges and opportunities relating to both the inforce book and new initiatives are well understood by relevant stakeholders. Role Responsibilities Develop and maintain deep technical expertise in local reporting requirements for S&R business, with an initial focus on Canadian reporting frameworks including IFRS 17 and LICAT. Own the interpretation, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of local reporting methodologies, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting, regulatory, and internal governance requirements. Lead the production, analysis, and review of IFRS 17 and LICAT reporting results, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely delivery of reporting outputs. Provide clear and insightful analysis of reporting results, including movements in earnings, reserves, capital, and key metrics, to support management understanding and decision-making. Monitor emerging accounting, regulatory, and industry developments, assessing impacts and recommending enhancements to methodologies, processes, and reporting frameworks. Support internal and external audits, regulatory reviews, and stakeholder requests by providing technical explanations, analysis, and documentation. Contribute to the development of a scalable local reporting capability that can support additional reporting bases and geographies as the S&R business expands. Support AVP, Actuarial Analytics & Insights on operational readiness for upcoming initiatives Manage effective networks and demonstrate excellent communication. Build relationships with stakeholders in S&R and wider DBS, keeping S&R Corporate Actuarial aware of relevant updates. Support non-BAU activities and other corporate actuarial projects, as required. Lead and mentor team members, fostering technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and a strong control environment within the reporting function. Skills & Experience Qualified actuary with minimum of 5 years’ experience in life insurance or life reinsurance Experience of working within an actuarial reporting function Demonstrated experience with IFRS 17 reporting, including analysis of earnings, liabilities, CSM, and financial disclosures. Experience with insurance regulatory capital frameworks, preferably LICAT but Solvency II, BMA, RBC, or equivalent regimes would be useful. Strong understanding of financial reporting and regulatory capital frameworks within the insurance industry. Experience with longevity swaps, funded reinsurance, pension risk transfer, annuity, or retirement-focused businesses. Experience working across multiple reporting bases, such as IFRS 17, local statutory reporting, regulatory capital, and economic value frameworks. Experience supporting international operations or working across multiple jurisdictions. Exposure to Canadian insurance reporting and regulatory requirements. Experience leading reporting process improvement, automation, or transformation initiatives.
