Job Description: Business Overview The Marketplace Business is responsible for operating Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuten's founding business. Established in 1997, Rakuten Ichiba has continued to grow to this day, embodying Rakuten's mission to "empower people and society through innovation." It has created a system that allows those skilled in commerce to easily open shops, transcending the limitations of trading areas, and delivering the joy of shopping to users throughout Japan. Currently, it has grown into one of the largest e-commerce sites in Japan, with over 50,000 stores (as of March 2026) and over 100 million user accounts, serving a large user base. Rakuten Ichiba Service Page: Department Overview The Ichiba Advertising Department aims to achieve mutual growth with merchants operating stores on Rakuten Ichiba and manufacturer brands selling their products through the marketplace by providing effective advertising solutions. Within the department, the Ad Solution Planning Section creates value by addressing clients’ business challenges through the planning, management, and optimization of performance-based advertising campaigns. As specialists in performance marketing, we develop tailored media strategies to meet each client’s unique needs. We provide comprehensive, end-to-end support encompassing media planning, campaign operations, performance analysis, and continuous optimization. Through the media plans and improvement initiatives we develop, we deliver advertising to audiences throughout Japan. By monitoring campaign performance in real time and making data-driven decisions, we ensure agile and flexible campaign management while maximizing advertising effectiveness. The Ad Consulting Team delivers advertising campaigns across external platforms outside the Rakuten ecosystem, utilizing display advertising platforms such as Google and Yahoo!, as well as various social media channels. Working closely with our sales representatives, the team proposes optimal media strategies tailored to each client and oversees the execution and optimization of their advertising campaigns. We offer a well-structured training program and comprehensive support system, enabling candidates without prior advertising industry experience to systematically acquire the knowledge and skills required for the role. Position: Why We Hire Previously, the Ad Solution Planning Section offered products with different service levels for national brands and merchants operating stores on Rakuten Ichiba. However, with the aim of delivering equitable value to all stakeholders, we reviewed and restructured our service framework in August 2026. As the scope of our services has expanded, our clients now represent a broader range of knowledge and experience levels. This has created an even greater need for attentive communication, a strong service-oriented mindset, and the flexibility to respond to each client’s individual needs. Specifically, your responsibilities will include the following: ・ Developing media plans ・ Directing campaign setup and optimization ・ Overseeing campaign optimization and performance adjustments ・ Reporting on campaign performance ・ Analyzing advertising results and formulating improvement initiatives ・ Attending client meetings and presentations ・ Improving operational efficiency Operational tasks related to advertising campaigns are primarily outsourced to external partners. Therefore, this role focuses mainly on direction and consulting rather than hands-on execution. You will collaborate closely with sales representatives and outsourcing partners to manage and advance projects for each client. For projects involving global companies, communication in English may be required. Each team member is responsible for approximately 10 to 15 accounts.
