Mechanical & CAD Engineers

Job description

**This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for Mechanical & CAD Engineers based in India.** As a Mechanical & CAD Engineer, you will apply your engineering expertise to support an innovative research project focused on advancing artificial intelligence. You will work on real-world mechanical design and CAD workflows, helping evaluate and improve the capabilities of cutting-edge AI models. Through hands-on 3D modeling, technical drafting, and engineering problem-solving, you will contribute high-quality training data that helps AI systems better understand complex engineering tasks. This fully remote, part-time opportunity offers the flexibility to work on your own schedule while collaborating on projects at the intersection of engineering and AI research. You can contribute approximately 10–20 hours per week, with clearly defined tasks and a structured workflow. If you have practical CAD experience, strong analytical skills, and an interest in shaping the future of AI-powered engineering, this role offers an exciting opportunity to put your expertise to work. ### Accountabilities - Mechanical Design & CAD Modeling: Complete practical mechanical engineering and CAD tasks using Mac-compatible design software, applying established engineering principles and design practices. - 3D Modeling & Technical Drafting: Create, review, and refine 3D models, engineering drawings, and other technical design outputs with attention to accuracy and detail. - AI Research Support: Contribute to research initiatives by completing real-world engineering workflows that help benchmark, evaluate, and improve advanced AI models. - Technical Reasoning & Documentation: Clearly explain engineering decisions, design approaches, modeling methods, and problem-solving processes while completing assigned tasks. - Training Data Development: Produce high-quality, structured examples of mechanical design and CAD work to support the training and evaluation of AI systems. - Engineering Quality & Best Practices: Apply relevant engineering standards and design principles, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) where applicable, to ensure technically sound outputs. - Independent Project Execution: Manage assigned tasks independently, maintain clear documentation, and deliver work within agreed timelines while working remotely. - Project Collaboration: Follow research guidelines, respond to task requirements, and contribute consistently to project objectives as they evolve. ## Requirements: - Education & Professional Experience: A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, with either 2–3 years of relevant professional experience and a bachelor's degree or current/recent enrollment in postgraduate engineering studies. The original posting specifies a bachelor's degree from a prestigious institution for the professional-experience pathway. - Mandatory Mac Ownership: You must own a MacBook or Mac computer equipped with either an Apple M-series chip or an Intel processor and running macOS 15 or later. Applicants without a compatible Mac cannot be considered. - CAD & 3D Modeling Skills: Hands-on experience with 3D modeling, mechanical design, and technical drafting, with proficiency in at least one Mac-compatible CAD tool, such as Fusion 360, Onshape, Shapr3D, or FreeCAD. - Engineering Drawing Knowledge: Familiarity with technical drawings, engineering documentation, and design standards. Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is an advantage. - Analytical & Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong engineering judgment and the ability to analyze design challenges, evaluate alternatives, and explain technical decisions clearly. - Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate design reasoning and document workflows in a structured, understandable manner. - Independence & Attention to Detail: A self-motivated, organized approach to completing technical tasks accurately, following instructions, and maintaining high-quality outputs. - Adaptability & Learning Mindset: An interest in emerging AI technologies and a willingness to apply engineering expertise to new research and model-evaluation workflows. - Availability: Ability to commit approximately 10–20 hours per week, with a preference for candidates who can start immediately. - Contract Eligibility: The engagement is structured as an independent contractor arrangement. The original posting states that H-1B and STEM OPT candidates cannot be supported at this time. ## Benefits: - Competitive Hourly Pay: Earn $50–$60 per hour, based on services rendered. - Weekly Payments: Receive payments weekly through Stripe or Wise. - Fully Remote Work: Complete assignments remotely using your own compatible Mac computer. - Flexible Schedule: Work approximately 10–20 hours per week and organize your time around project requirements. - Practical Engineering Experience: Apply your mechanical design and CAD skills to real-world technical workflows and research tasks. - AI Innovation Exposure: Contribute to the development and evaluation of advanced AI systems alongside projects supporting leading AI research. - Structured Responsibilities: Work on clearly defined tasks without the typical high-pressure demands associated with some internships or full-time consulting engagements. - Independent Work Environment: Take ownership of your assignments while benefiting from structured project guidelines. - Potential Project Extensions: Engagement duration may vary depending on project needs and performance; projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early. - Additional Earning Opportunity: Referral rewards of up to $240 may be available for successful referrals, subject to applicable referral limits and policy terms. - Employment & Benefits Clarification: This is an independent contractor role, not a salaried employee position. Healthcare coverage, paid leave, and other traditional employee benefits are not specified in the original posting.
