Member of Operations Staff, Finance & Business Operations

Job description

### **About Us** Edison Scientific builds and deploys AI scientist agents to accelerate science and the development of new medicines. We are an ambitious team run by scientists and engineers from leading institutions across biology, physics, chemistry, and AI. ### **About the Role** This will be Edison’s first dedicated finance hire, reporting to our Head of Operations. In this role you'll fully own Edison's financial operating system. Our business is growing fast: real revenue, complex deals with top pharma and bio companies, and emerging products with evolving pricing. We're looking for someone who can build the core financial model, oversee our books, manage our compute spend, and ensure our deals align with where the business is headed. You will have your hands in all of this and have to be comfortable with defining the bigger picture and owning the day-to-day execution of small details. This is uniquely a strategic and operational role. We want a financial generalist excited to roll up their sleeves to do whatever needs to be done. You likely have been at a start-up and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You should have a strong executive presence and can command a room. You are opinionated and unafraid to share your recommendations. You are hungry, incredibly curious, and excited to learn. The role is in-person and based in our San Francisco or NYC office. ### **Key Responsibilities** - Own Edison’s books. - Build and maintain the financial model, cash forecast, and runway view. - Report on spend by team, vendor, and program so leadership can see where the money is going. - Own revenue recognition, invoicing, and collections on pharma and biotech contracts. - Own the finance stack (ERP, billing, procurement, expense) and keep it simple. - Partner on payroll, benefits, and equity administration. - Support headcount planning and budgeting with each function lead. - Model major commitments (compute, data acquisition, facilities). - Support and advise on commercial deals on pricing, structure, and margin. - Prepare board and investor reporting. ### **Required Qualifications** - Typically, 4-7 years years of experience in operations, finance, consulting or a similar business-side role. - Strong analytical and financial modeling experience. - Executive level communication skills. - Comfort working in ambiguity, context-switching, and high intensity. - Actively uses AI tools to create leverage across daily work: automating tasks, optimizing workflows, and directing agents where appropriate. - Strong interest in AI for science. ### **Preferred Qualifications** - Experience in a high-growth startup or early-stage company. - Experience in pharma and/or life sciences. ### **Why join us?** We're a fast-moving, mission-driven culture where smart people do their best work and actually enjoy doing it. We also offer full-time employees the following: - Competitive salary and equity - Full healthcare coverage; we pay 100% of premiums for you and your dependents - Support for growing families, including a yearly new parent stipend and fertility coverage through Carrot - Mental health support through Rula, our in-network therapist and psychiatrist network with fast availability - 12 weeks of paid parental leave for maternity, paternity, and adoption - Pet care support with a yearly employer-funded stipend for your animal companions - Commuter benefits so you can pay for transit and parking with pre-tax dollars - 401(k) company matching - $300 health and wellness benefit quarterly - Lunch is on us every day you're in the office, and dinner is on us when you're working late - Regular team off-sites and company events *Edison Scientific is an equal opportunity employer.
