Network Security Automation Engineer

Job description

**This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Network Security Automation Engineer based in India.** Join an engineering team focused on strengthening network security through scalable software solutions and intelligent automation. In this role, you will develop and maintain the internal APIs, services, and risk engines that power network security policy management. You will automate critical operational workflows, integrate security platforms, and improve the reliability and efficiency of network infrastructure. Working closely with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and other technical teams, you will build production-ready tools that enhance visibility, streamline security operations, and reduce manual intervention. You will also contribute to network detection and response capabilities, helping validate security controls and identify potential threats. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer who combines strong Python development skills with deep network security knowledge and a proactive approach to solving complex technical challenges. ### Accountabilities: - Design, develop, maintain, and extend internal APIs and services that support network security policy management, including risk calculation and evaluation engines. - Automate end-to-end operational workflows, from request intake and validation to policy change execution, evidence collection, and reporting. - Write, test, deploy, and maintain secure, reliable, and maintainable production code in collaboration with Site Reliability Engineering teams. - Integrate firewalls, network segmentation platforms, asset inventories, ticketing systems, and network detection tools through APIs and automated interfaces. - Contribute to the implementation and improvement of network detection and response capabilities, including automated detection validation across Network Detection and Response (NDR), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS). - Identify operational inefficiencies, investigate emerging technical issues, and proactively develop solutions before problems escalate into incidents. - Apply security-focused engineering practices to systems with privileged network access, ensuring appropriate controls, secure integrations, and reliable policy enforcement. - Support continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), deployment processes, monitoring, and release management in partnership with SRE teams. - Improve network security visibility and operational effectiveness through automation, integration, and data-driven validation. - Use AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate development and problem-solving while critically evaluating outputs for correctness, security, and reliability. ## Requirements: - At least three years of professional experience in network security, network engineering, infrastructure automation, or platform engineering, with demonstrated experience building and delivering production tools or services. - Strong proficiency in Python, including the ability to develop, test, debug, and maintain high-quality production code. - Solid understanding of network security principles, including firewall policies, access control lists (ACLs), network segmentation, and routing across network devices, hosts, and cloud environments. - Practical experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and software development workflows, along with sufficient knowledge of containerized deployments to collaborate effectively with SRE teams. - Strong understanding of REST APIs, Transport Layer Security (TLS), digital certificates, and secure coding practices. - Ability to work independently on loosely defined technical problems, evaluate alternative approaches, and deliver secure, maintainable solutions. - Experience using AI-powered tools to address real engineering challenges, combined with the technical judgment to validate generated code and recognize inaccurate or unsafe outputs. - Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a proactive mindset and the ability to identify problems, assess security risks, and implement practical improvements. - Clear communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working with engineering, infrastructure, and security operations teams. **The following qualifications are advantageous:** - Experience with network security technologies such as Juniper SRX, Palo Alto Networks, Tufin, or Illumio. - Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and technologies, including Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Kubernetes. - Experience with AWS networking, Identity and Access Management (IAM), and serverless automation. - Practical experience automating security detections and validation across NDR, IDS, or IPS platforms. - Familiarity with network flow data, firewall logs, DNS logs, and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms. - A commitment to continuous learning and the ability to adapt to evolving network security technologies and engineering practices. ## Benefits: - **Remote work flexibility:** Work remotely from home in India, with occasional office visits for team meetings or company events when needed. - **Competitive health benefits:** Access to healthcare benefits designed to support employee well-being, subject to location-specific eligibility. - **Financial security:** Potential access to retirement savings plans and other financial benefits, depending on the applicable employment arrangement. - **Performance incentives:** Eligibility for bonuses or incentive programs, subject to role and regional policies. - **Equity opportunities:** Potential eligibility for equity grants and participation in an employee stock purchase plan. - **Paid time off:** Access to paid leave and vacation benefits in accordance with applicable policies and local employment requirements. - **Family-friendly benefits:** Benefits that may include parental leave and other support for employees and their families. - **Collaborative engineering culture:** Work alongside technical teams focused on experimentation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. - **Professional development:** Opportunities to strengthen expertise in network security, Python automation, cloud infrastructure, and modern engineering practices. - **Meaningful technical impact:** Help build and operate security automation systems that protect complex network infrastructure at scale.
