Operations Manager, Bookkeeping

Job description

# About Layer Over the last decade, a vibrant ecosystem of SMB software tools has emerged to help SMBs manage and run their businesses. These tools help SMBs with everything from payments to payroll, but accounting has lagged behind. Small business owners are still struggling with disconnected, generic, accounting software and expensive bookkeepers. At Layer, we’re building a new kind of accounting software and bookkeeping that lives within the existing software tools SMBs use every day. Our platform allows software companies to quickly launch modern accounting software and bookkeeping services to their SMB customers, eliminating the need for them to use legacy accounting tools or bookkeepers. # The Role As a Bookkeeping Operations Manager at Layer, you’ll help us scale our bookkeeping business to meet the rapidly growing demand of our customers. You’ll manage our automated bookkeeping service that already serves close to a thousand SMBs today and help us scale it to tens of thousands. We’re growing quickly, and our bookkeeping operations need to scale alongside our customer base. We’re building a combination of great people, efficient processes, and software automation to deliver a consistently excellent bookkeeping experience for our customers. In this role, you’ll be responsible for keeping our day-to-day bookkeeping operations running smoothly while helping build the systems that allow us to operate at a much larger scale. You’ll work closely with our operations, bookkeeping, partnerships, and engineering teams to improve execution, eliminate bottlenecks, and make our team more effective. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves bringing structure to ambiguity, takes ownership of outcomes, and gets satisfaction from making complex operations run better. Key responsibilities include: - Build deep expertise in small business bookkeeping processes and Layer’s bookkeeping systems. - Triage and investigate customer issues surfaced by our frontline bookkeeping team. - Document and improve our standard operating procedures across our bookkeeping service. - Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce manual work, and increase team efficiency. - Manage our Philippines-based bookkeeping team. Track performance metrics and SLAs. # Skills & experience This role will suit strong generalists with a growth mindset. If you’re invigorated by the idea of learning quickly, owning results and having a significant impact at a fast growing startup, this role is for you. We’re looking for candidates who are: - Driven by impact - You consistently see the possibility in what could be. You like seeing the results of your work out in the world. You’re energized when surrounded by others that share this ambition. - Fast Learner - You’re eager to become a subject matter expert on Layer’s bookkeeping processes & policies - Organized and structured - You approach problems methodically and systematize your approach into a repeatable, scalable process that doesn’t drop important details. - Biased towards action - You enjoy getting things done and are undeterred by setbacks. You actively seek to understand which problems are most important and you tackle those problems head on. - Clear communicators - You’re an exceptional written and verbal communicator. You can efficiently and empathetically interact with everyone from customers, to teammates, to candidates. Ideal candidates have 2-5 years of experience in startup operations, investment banking, management consulting, or any role that requires exceptional independent execution.
