Job description
Position Overview: As a CDLA Yard Jockey you are responsible for safely maneuvering tractor-trailer combinations within the confines of the yard. This position requires excellent driving skills, attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety protocols. Responsibilities: • Operating yard trucks (horses) to move trailers within the yard and docking/undocking from the loading docks • Ensuring accurate positioning of trailers for loading and unloading in a safe and timely manner • Collaborating and communicating with Warehouse and Dispatch personnel to prioritize the movement of trailers based on the shipping and receiving schedules • Conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections on yard trucks to ensure they are in good working conditions – if pre or post trip do not meet company safety policies – following current process for out of service equipment procedures • Maintaining accurate and timely records of trailer movements and locations within the yard • Maintaining an organized and efficient trailer parking process • Ensuring proper flow of inbound and outbound trailer movement in tandem with Warehouse and Dispatch • Reporting any issues promptly to shift leadership • Performing basic maintenance yard checks for fueling needs, products, supplied, returns on staged trailers and proper temperatures are maintained • Moving trailers from different sites – Fleet maintenance, Original Distribution and New Distribution centers • Maintaining a safe and clean working environment • Flexibility to work various or additional shifts, as needed including evenings, weekends, and holidays • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership Environment: • Varying external weather conditions and temperatures Schedule: • TBD based on business needs Experience: • Preferred: One (1) year minimum active driving experience • Required: CDL-A License required (Valid & Active) • Required: 21+ years or older Skills: • Safety Culture: Maintain and drive safety policies; driving for accountability of safe practices throughout shift • Physical abilities: May be required to lift up to 80-85lbs.; standing, bending, lifting and twisting for up to 90% of your shift; frequently lifting product from various heights including floor level to over your head; Ability to stand or walk at least 10 hours daily; working in various temperature controlled environments; the ability to operate required material handling equipment – getting on and off equipment throughout shift • Strong communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with peers and leaders on a daily basis • Organizational Skills: Ability to fulfill customer orders in a timely manner; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines • Working in a team based environment: Working independently and as a team player to ensure our customers are receiving orders timely and with the highest quality • Quality: Maintain integrity and high standards of product handling from all perspectives
