Job Description CSN is seeking part-time tutors to support students through the Centers for Academic Success. Tutors assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with students in person or online to clarify learning challenges, strengthen study skills, and reinforce course material. Tutoring may include reviewing class material, discussing effective reading strategies, predicting test questions, formulating ideas for papers, and working through solutions to problems. Tutoring is intended to supplement classroom instruction. BENEFITS OF BEING A TUTOR: Opportunity to gain work and leadership experience Increased academic knowledge Strengthening of interpersonal and coaching skills Gained satisfaction from helping others succeed Closer relationships with faculty, staff, and peers Flexible work schedule CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide tutoring to students as an employee of Centers for Academic Success Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them in person or online to clarify learning problems and work on study skills Review class material, discuss best approaches to reading the text, predict test questions, formulate ideas for papers, and work on solutions to problems Provide support that supplements classroom teaching REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Have at least 12 hours of undergraduate work with an earned overall college grade point average of at least 3.0 ( transcripts must be submitted ) Have earned a B or higher in the subject applying to tutor Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills while working with students from varied backgrounds and skill levels Demonstrate knowledge of effective study skills and strategies during tutoring sessions and interviews Having previous tutorial experience in subject matter is a definite plus Provide a recommendation from a faculty member that teaches the subject you wish to tutor WORK HOUR REQUIREMENTS: The maximum amount of hours a tutor can work in the Centers is 20 hours per week.
