People Ops & Payroll Manager

Job description

**People Operations & Payroll Manager** Artsy is looking for a People Operations & Payroll Manager who wants to build real depth across HR operations, not just payroll. This is a full-time position, and will report to our Associate Director of People Operations. You'll join a tight-knit, highly collaborative People team supporting employees at Artsy and Artnet across the US, UK, and Germany. When you're fully ramped, payroll will be about half of your role. You'll own it end to end: running every cycle, auditing the results, and being the person employees and vendors rely on for answers. The other half is the rest of HR operations. You'll manage immigration and visa cases, administer leaves of absence, support compliance work, and keep our HR systems accurate. This is a strong fit if you're early in your HR career, you're good at payroll, and you want to broaden into the work that makes a People Operations function run. You'll learn from experienced teammates, take on real ownership quickly, and see how the full employee lifecycle fits together. **The role is based in our New York office, 3 days a week in office.** **What You'll Do:** - Run payroll for the US, UK, and Germany, including preparing, auditing, and reconciling each cycle - Act as the main contact for payroll vendors and for employee payroll questions - Process payroll steps for terminations, including final pay, severance, and holiday pay - Own global benefits enrollment and invoice audits, and make sure deductions are accurate on payroll - Administer leaves of absence from start to finish, including employee communication and return-to-work coordination - Manage day-to-day work authorization and immigration cases, including working with outside counsel and keeping employees informed - Support compliance work, including research that informs policy updates when we hire in a new location - Keep HRIS workflows and integrations (BambooHR, ADP, Lattice) running accurately and on time - Handle core HR administration, including employment verifications, unemployment responses, and audit support **Who You Are:** - Position will be based in-person, in our NYC office 3 days per week - Must be currently located and authorized to work in the US Required: - 1–2 years of hands-on payroll processing experience - Experience using AI to work more efficiently, automate repeatable tasks, and decide where human review is still needed - Strong attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work - Clear written and verbal communication, especially when explaining payroll or HR questions to non-experts - Professional discretion handling confidential employee information Ideal: - Experience with ADP - Some exposure to international payroll (UK, Germany, or elsewhere) - Familiarity with BambooHR or a similar HRIS - Interest in immigration, leaves, or compliance work How you work: - **Accurate** — you catch the small error before it becomes an employee's problem - **Self-directed** — you manage your own calendar, find your own answers, and know when to ask - **Organized under deadlines** — payroll doesn't move, and you plan around it - **Curious** — you want to understand why a rule exists, not just follow it - **A good teammate** — you work easily with People, Finance, IT, and managers across time zones **How We Use AI:** AI is part of how our team works, and we expect it in this role. You'll use AI tools to make your own work faster, automate tasks that repeat every cycle or every month, and judge where a person still needs to review the result. Payroll, immigration, and leave decisions involve sensitive employee data and legal risk, so knowing when to trust the output and when to check it matters as much as the speed. **What We Offer:** - Opportunity to reimagine the art industry while working with a talented, diverse, international team - Compensation package that includes both base salary and employee equity - Flexible time off: our culture of trust and empowerment allows employees to take the time they need away from work while still excelling in their roles - We are a global hybrid team: most employees work from our NYC, London, or Berlin offices - Comprehensive healthcare and benefit options, including: medical, dental, parental leave, short- and long-term disability, Employee Assistance Program featuring free mental health support, 401k, commuter benefits, flexible spending accounts (FSA), health savings accounts (HSA), financial wellness support and resources, and more - Professional development, including: mentoring, lunch and learns, regular training, 1:1 management, and an open feedback culture - Engaging opportunities and internal programming globally, to foster new relationships and build a collaborative community, including: happy hours, holiday parties, global "All Hands" meetings, "Artsy Salon" (a yearly exhibition of our team's creativity), attendance at art world events, and more The salary range for this role is 70,000–85,000 USD. Artsy is committed to equitable compensation practices, and your offer will depend on the relevant experience and skillset you bring to the team. All compensation packages include meaningful Artsy equity and competitive health benefits. **To Apply:** To apply, please submit your resumé and a cover letter here.
