Platform Engineering Manager - Infra + DevOps

Job description

Honor Technology’s mission is to change the way society cares for older adults. As a leader in aging care innovation, Honor provides the technology, tools, and services that empower older adults to live life on their own terms. Honor’s growing portfolio includes its consumer care brand, Home Instead, Inc., the world’s leading provider of in-home care for older adults. With a global franchise network and more than 100,000 Care Pros, Home Instead delivers over 50 million hours of personalized care annually. Together, Honor and Home Instead are setting a new standard for aging in place, backed by powerful technology, compassionate care, and a commitment to aging on your own terms. Join us to create a new and better aging experience for our clients, their families, and our Care Professionals. **About Us** Honor exists to expand the world's capacity to care. We're combining high tech with high-touch to deliver better home care for aging adults, better jobs for Care Professionals, and entirely new offerings to support the aging journey, at scale. Founded in 2014, and now a Series E funded “Unicorn” valued at over $1B, Honor leads the world's largest home care network with the most advanced care platform. Our August 2021 acquisition of Home Instead has created a global company that's revolutionizing how society cares for older adults, their families, and Care Professionals. The Honor Care Platform combines local care and the most advanced technology to bring the highest quality care to more aging adults. Grow at Honor as part of a united team where everyone shows up authentically, shares ideas bravely, and solves complex problems! **About the Team & Role** We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead Platform Engineering, a small team of highly senior (Staff+) engineers who build and operate the infrastructure and core services powering Honor's Care Platform, including cloud infrastructure, CI/CD and developer tooling, reliability and operations, security foundations, and shared architecture. This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll own Platform's strategic roadmap and day-to-day execution, while staying technical enough to set direction, challenge your engineers' thinking, and know when to go deep yourself versus lean on their expertise. What we are looking for in a candidate: - 8+ years of professional software/platform engineering experience, including at least 3+ years directly managing engineers at Senior or Staff level within a platform, infrastructure, or SRE organization at a product-centric company. - Enough hands-on depth to be technically credible with Staff+ engineers: comfortable reasoning about cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), Infrastructure as Code (CDK, Terraform, or similar), Kubernetes-based production systems, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, ArgoCD, or similar), and service-to-service architecture even where you are not the deepest expert in a given domain. - A track record of creating leverage from highly autonomous senior engineers through context, challenge, feedback, and development not task management. Comfortable managing people with greater domain expertise than your own. - Experience translating company and engineering priorities into a coherent platform roadmap: distinguishing systemic problems from one-off requests, protecting foundational investment, and making the resulting tradeoffs and opportunity costs visible to your manager and stakeholders. - Experience balancing planned roadmap work against KTLO, incidents, and unplanned operational demand — establishing ownership and lightweight process without becoming the team's project manager. - Comfortable partnering with senior technical ICs as complementary leaders rather than competing for authority or abdicating technical judgment to them. - Strong written and verbal communication, tailored to a variety of audiences from your engineers, to your own manager, to domain teams across engineering. - A strategic thinker with a product-first approach and customer obsession, comfortable making nuanced tradeoffs about which technical investments are appropriate at the company's current stage. Some, or all, of these are true: - You've managed a newly-formed or recently-restructured team, including ramping new senior hires into ownership. - You work at, or have worked at, a technology startup and are familiar with the challenges of evolving platform maturity. - You have first-hand experience defining or evolving the boundary between a platform team and the domain teams it serves — including when domain teams should self-serve versus engage platform directly. - Knowledge of infrastructure security review and compliance frameworks. Perks & benefits: - Remote-first work model lets you work from anywhere in the U.S. and occasionally pop into a satellite office - Competitive salary - Equity in the company - Comprehensive medical, mental health, dental, vision, and life insurance - Employer-matched 401(k) - Flexible PTO (manager approval) - Diverse environment, with women making up more than half of the company and half of the management team - Monthly stipend to offset home office expenses We acknowledge that applying for a new job can be intimidating, and we want to encourage any applicant who may be qualified for the position to apply.
