Political Scout Manager

Job description

**Americans for Prosperity (AFP)** is the premier grassroots organization focused on advocating solutions to the country’s greatest challenges. We recognize that tens of millions of Americans are frustrated with the extreme partisanship in government that keeps common-sense reforms from being passed, and instead seek to stand with policy leaders who are committed to finding a better way. Americans for Prosperity is part of the [Stand Together](https://standtogether.org/) philanthropic community. A senior, high-impact leadership role driving political strategy. This position sits at the center of Americans for Prosperity's political recruitment strategy — identifying, cultivating, and mentoring the next generation of policy-aligned leaders who will shape federal and state government. You'll work directly with senior state leadership, internal stakeholders, and high-profile political figures, making this a unique role contributing to AFP’s broader mission. The Political Scout Manager role calls for a seasoned political professional with a track record of leadership at the highest levels of campaign and recruitment work. ### How You Will Contribute: - Recruit top-tier candidates. Identify and recruit exceptional candidates for federal and state office who will advance the organization's vision and public policy goals. - Shape regional political strategy. Partner with AFP's state staff and community leaders to assess the political landscape and build strategies targeting the most critical public office seats. - Advise senior state leadership. Serve as a trusted consultant to AFP's state leaders as they design and execute candidate recruitment strategies. - Build high-level relationships. Cultivate strong, lasting relationships with aligned prospective candidates and inspire them to run for elected office. - Champion the mission. Connect prospective candidates and key stakeholders to AFP's vision for meaningful public policy change. - Lead candidate development. Conduct and facilitate AFP's Candidate School, directly shaping the readiness of future political leaders. ### What You Will Bring: - Proven leadership experience — Substantial, senior-level experience leading political recruitment and/or political campaign work at the federal level. - Executive presence — The professional gravitas required to build and maintain relationships with policy-aligned candidates, political leaders, elected officials, and other influential figures. - Regional expertise — A deep, nuanced understanding of the political landscape and electoral opportunities across a defined region. - A strong network — An established web of relationships with potential policy champions and political influencers. - Flexibility to travel — Willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time. - Alignment with our culture — Enthusiasm for Stand Together's [vision and principled approach](https://standtogether.org/our-vision-and-principles) to solving problems, and a genuine commitment to [our culture](https://standtogether.org/careers/our-culture) — including transformation and innovation, entrepreneurialism, humility, and respect. ### What We Offer: - [Competitive benefits:](https://standtogether.org/careers/benefits) Enjoy a 6% 401(k) match with immediate vesting, flexible time off, comprehensive health and dental plans, plus wellness and mental health support through Peloton and Talkspace. - A meaningful career: Join a passionate community of over 1,300 employees dedicated to improving lives and driving innovative solutions to complex social challenges. - Commitment to growth: Thrive in a non-hierarchical environment that empowers employees to discover, develop and apply their unique talents. For this role, the anticipated base salary range is **$110,000–$160,000** per year. This role may also be eligible for additional bonus compensation designed to align total compensation with an employee’s overall contribution to the organization.
