Product Manager, Fleet Telemetry, Controls & Optimization

Job description

**Location:** San Francisco, CA (Hybrid) **What is Verse?** The race to AI has become the race to power. Every breakthrough in artificial intelligence depends on one thing: access to electricity. But across the country, aging grid infrastructure and years-long interconnection queues are slowing the deployment of the data centers that will power the next generation of innovation. Solving this challenge isn't just about energy, it's about unlocking the future of AI. At Verse, we're building the energy intelligence platform for the AI economy. Our software helps the world's largest energy consumers achieve faster, cheaper, and cleaner power by combining real-time control of energy assets with complete visibility into their energy portfolio. Backed by Bessemer Venture Partners, GV, Coatue, and NVIDIA, and built by pioneers in grid-scale batteries, energy markets, and enterprise software, we're redefining how the world's most ambitious organizations access and manage energy. **The Role** Verse builds energy intelligence software for AI data centers and other large energy consumers. Our Dispatch Intelligence platform monitors and controls on-site batteries and other distributed energy resources in real time, so data centers keep compute online while the grid sees a flexible load. The same batteries earn revenue in energy markets such as ERCOT, CAISO and PJM. We are hiring a Product Manager to own the real-time telemetry, control and model predictive optimization layer of Dispatch Intelligence. You will build high-performance software that controls distributed energy resources, running on edge gateways or hardware-level virtualization platforms at customer sites. Working side by side with engineers, you will own the product requirements shaping how our platform connects to and controls equipment at each site. You will also own how optimized schedules are executed at the site and what happens when any of those steps fails. **Key Responsibilities** - Drive OEM integrations across BESS manufacturers (Tesla, Sungrow, Fluence, LG, etc) and meters, including telemetry ingestion, alarm management and complex multi-device site topologies and configuration across the fleet. - Own features on the fleet telemetry and real-time controls roadmap from requirements through release, from device integration and OEM protocol translation (Modbus, DNP3) to real-time safety logic. - Own end-to-end requirements for the dispatch path from the cloud optimizer to the site. - Partner with engineering and data science teams to own optimization engine decisions, from the cloud to the device and back, and design how the system recovers when any link in that chain breaks. - Write technical PRDs, test plans and scenario write-ups that engineers, operators and customers can act on. - Take features and the platform to general availability, covering deployment, customer and site network scheduling, rollback plans and results reporting. - Track dispatch health (schedule adherence, state-of-charge drift, command-to-confirmation latency, uptime and alarm volume) and use it to prioritize reliability work. **What We're Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)** - 1–3 years of product management experience on grid-connected distributed energy resources software, embedded, or industrial control systems. - Alternatively, 2–4 years in a related technical role (technical program management, applications engineering, project engineering, commissioning/controls engineering, or NOC/fleet operations), ideally working with battery energy storage systems (Tesla, Fluence, Sungrow, LG, etc.) and a clear interest in moving into product. - Hands-on exposure to software that talks to physical hardware and understands the reliability, latency, and integration challenges that come with it. - Working knowledge of device communication and messaging protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, NATS) or experience integrating with third-party hardware vendors with different APIs, firmware versions and data formats. - A solid technical foundation in distributed systems, edge computing or IoT. You can reason about site-to-cloud architectures, data buffering, retries and failure modes, and you’re comfortable reading API specs and telemetry data. **What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)** - Familiarity with optimization and forecasting concepts, or AI data center requirements such as load smoothing and low voltage ride through. - Background in site commissioning, field operations or NOC workflows. You’ve seen what it takes to bring a site online and keep it running. - Familiarity with how large data center loads participate in PJM or other wholesale markets, including large load interconnection, capacity markets, demand response and flexible load commitments. - Familiarity with AVEVA/OSIsoft PI, utility SCADA integration, or market access provider APIs (e.g., Enel, PJM) for grid services dispatch. - Technical degree (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or similar) or equivalent hands-on experience with control systems. **What makes Verse a great place to work?** - **We lead with empathy.** Empathy for our teammates and our customers is central to who we are. We lift each other up and strive to embody humility, selflessness, and kindness. We promote an emotionally aware attitude and culture by putting our colleagues and customers first. We respect the prior art and acknowledge those who have come before us. We never assume we know everything: every person has something to teach us. - **We are open, honest, and transparent.** Organizational and institutional trust is essential to tackling the world’s most challenging problems. That trust is built on effective communication with our team, our customers, and other stakeholders. We are always receptive to feedback on how we could do better, and we strive to provide constructive recommendations that help others excel. - **We move with balance and precision.** Life is a delicate balance between the forces of creation, maintenance, and destruction. We understand that each of these forces must be applied with diligence: When we act, we act carefully and responsibly. Speed, hard work, and perseverance must be accompanied by thoughtfulness and reflection. - **We are pursuing a labor of love.** We are passionate about renewable energy technology, and we like to dream big. We are disrupting the largest and most expensive machine humanity has ever built – the electricity system. We believe the greatest impact we can have on the climate crisis is through building elegant solutions and exceptional products that delight our customers. **Base Pay Range** $130,000-$200,000 *This is the estimated base salary range for this position, which does not include the value of benefits or a potential equity grant. A wide range of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to level, skill sets, market conditions, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and business and organizational needs.* **Benefits and Employee Perks** - Competitive compensation and equity grant at a high-growth start up - Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance, and 401k - Flexible hours and unlimited PTO - Diverse and inclusive working environment Verse is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants and employees are considered for hire, promotion, and compensation without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, marital or familial status.
