We're hiring a HVAC Estimator for a U.S.-based commercial mechanical contractor.This is a newly created position, and it is first and foremost an estimating seat. The company wants one person who can own commercial HVAC estimating end-to-end — take-offs, pricing, bid packages — and become the internal authority on how they bid work.As you learn their processes, the role expands to include project management support. - Prepare complete estimates for commercial HVAC projects from drawings and specifications
- Execute detailed material and equipment take-offs — ductwork, sheet metal, air handling equipment, piping, insulation, hangers and accessories
- Build labor pricing using U.S. labor rates and productivity factors
- Solicit, review and level subcontractor and vendor quotes
- Analyze scopes of work, identify exclusions and qualifications, and flag scope gaps before they become change orders
- Raise RFIs and process addendums during the bid period
- Assemble and submit complete, competitive bid packages within deadline
- Build and maintain the company's cost databases, estimating templates and standardized workflows
- Conduct post-bid reviews to improve accuracy and margin over time
Your secondary role: project management support
Once you're established in the estimating seat, you'll take on a growing share of this.
- Prepare and track submittals
- Assemble closeout documentation
- Plan management and document control
- Support change order pricing and scope adjustments
Requirements
- Mechanical Engineering degree
- Hands-on HVAC estimating experience — you have personally priced commercial HVAC scope: ductwork, sheet metal, equipment, piping, and the associated labor
- U.S. market experience — you've worked to U.S. codes, labor rates and estimating conventions
- Availability to work full-time during U.S. business hours
Plus:
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience on large commercial HVAC projects
- Strong Bluebeam skills
- Experience with Procore
- Professional working English, written and spoken
Nice to have
- Engineering license (P.E. or local equivalent)
- Previous experience supporting project management on commercial construction
- AutoCAD or Revit for light drafting and markups
- Experience in hospitality, data center, healthcare or government projects
- ASHRAE or SMACNA familiarity
- Strong written communication — this is a remote role on a distributed team
