Revenue Cycle Specialist

Job description

**About Foodsmart:** Foodsmart is the leading Foodcare platform in the U.S., built to deliver nutrition-driven healthcare at scale. Powered by a national network of Registered Dietitians, Foodsmart combines personalized clinical nutrition care, behavior change tools, and food benefits to improve member health outcomes while lowering healthcare costs. Our platform is designed to foster healthier food choices, drive lasting behavior change, and deliver sustainable health outcomes. Through our highly personalized, digital platform, we guide more than 3 million members—including those in employer-sponsored health plans, regional and national Medicaid managed care organizations, Medicare Advantage plans, and commercial insurers—on a tailored journey to eating well while saving time and money. Foodsmart seamlessly integrates dietary assessments and nutrition counseling with online food ordering and cost-effective meal planning for the entire family, optimizing ingredients both at home and on the go. We partner with national and regional retailers across the U.S., many of whom accept SNAP/EBT, making healthier food more accessible. Additionally, we assist members with SNAP enrollment and management, providing tangible access to nutritious food. In 2024, Foodsmart secured a $200 million investment from TPG’s Rise Fund, which supports entrepreneurs dedicated to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. This investment helps us expand our reach, particularly to low-income workers who are disproportionately affected by diet-related diseases. At Foodsmart, our mission is to make nutritious food accessible and affordable for everyone, regardless of economic status. We are committed to a set of core values that shape our culture and work environment: 👥 Customer First - You start with the member and work backwards. 🚀 Make It Happen - You act with urgency, use data, and hold high standards. 🤝 One Team - You collaborate with respect and commit as a group. Whether you're a dietitian, a commercial leader, or a technologist, working at Foodsmart means being part of a team that is passionate, supportive, and driven by a shared purpose. Join us in transforming the way people access and enjoy healthy food. **About the Role:** The Revenue Cycle Operations team is a highly collaborative, cross-functional group that manages end-to-end insurance billing and the patient billing experience at Foodsmart. We’re looking for a Revenue Cycle Specialist to be a hands-on part of that team, helping us submit, track, and resolve claims so we can secure timely and accurate reimbursement. This isn’t a traditional billing seat. Along with day-to-day claims work, you’ll dig into the “why” behind denials and rejections, take on ad hoc problems as they come up, and help us find better ways to work. If you like untangling messy billing puzzles and are curious about how technology and automation can make the process better, this is a great place to build your RCM career. ### You will: - Process and submit claims: Prepare and submit claims to health plans accurately and on time, and keep the work moving through the billing cycle. - Work denials and rejections: Research denied and rejected claims, identify the root cause, make corrections, and resubmit. Flag recurring patterns to the team so we can fix issues at the source. - Follow up on reimbursement: Monitor claim status, follow up with health plans and RCM partners, and help resolve payment issues. - Support reporting and month-end close: Help prepare claims and billing reports, and keep documentation clean and up to date. - Take on ad hoc projects: Jump in on investigations, one-off cleanups, and special projects as they arise. Examples include researching a batch of aged claims or digging into a payer-specific issue. - Partner across teams: Work with finance, product, and engineering to share what you’re seeing in the data and in day-to-day claims, and help test and give feedback on process or system improvements. - Support the patient and health plan experience: Help with billing communications and questions so patients and health plans have a smooth experience. ### You are: - A clear communicator and a good teammate - Detail-oriented, with an analytical streak - Comfortable switching priorities when something urgent comes up - Curious and eager to learn, and happy to ask “why does it work this way?” - Able to work independently on assigned work and know when to pull in help ### You have: - 1-3 years of experience in medical billing, claims submission, or denials management - Working knowledge of claim lifecycle basics (CMS-1500/837 claims, CPT/ICD-10 coding, EOBs/ERAs, common denial reason codes) - Comfort with Google Suite and Excel (sorting, filtering, and ideally pivot tables and VLOOKUPs) - Strong written and verbal communication skills, ideally also with comfort working with health plans to resolve payment issues - Experience with EMR or RCM software (i.e. Candid) is a plus - Experience with Medicaid or Medicare billing is a plus - Experience with registered dietician, nutrition services and/or food billing is a plus
