Robotics Engineer - NPI Robotics

Job description

About Us At Dyson, we’re pioneering advanced robotics that transform everyday engineering. Our ambitious robotics research programme is driving the development of cutting-edge perception and localisation systems, bringing real-world autonomy and intelligence to future products. With over 20 years of investment in robotics—supported by 200 engineers, 420 patents, and £28 million already dedicated to our first robot vacuum—Dyson sits at the forefront of this revolution. Our multidisciplinary team works across Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Robot Control, Mechatronics, Electronics, and Human-Robot Interaction, in a collaborative, friendly, and globally diverse environment. This is just the beginning. Join us in advancing intelligent, adaptable, and physically capable systems that will shape the future of domestic robotics. About the Role We’re looking for innovators with hands-on experience in computer vision or robotics. You’ll be part of a world-class research team to design, prototype, and deliver robust perception solutions for Dyson’s next-generation robotic platforms. We value initiative, creativity, and a strong desire to solve meaningful real-world problems. Key Responsibilities: Communicate complex concepts clearly within a cross-functional, multicultural team. Take ownership and work autonomously to deliver against ambitious goals. Design, implement, and evaluate novel perception algorithms for real-world robotic challenges. Build and rigorously test prototypes—across simulation and hardware—to assess performance and reliability. Identify and resolve challenging edge cases encountered in domestic environments. Collaborate with engineers from multiple disciplines to create systems that balance physical, computational, and cost constraints. Develop software in Python and/or C++; deploy and test solutions on prototype or target hardware. Apply state-of-the-art machine learning and image processing methods suited to embedded robotic platforms. Stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices in academic and industrial robotics. About You Advanced degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering or a related field, focused on sensing and perception. Proven experience with a range of sensing technologies, including integration and system-level understanding. Skilled in designing, developing, and testing both hardware and software prototypes. Expertise in modern machine learning and embedded computer vision, including object detection, tracking, point cloud registration, and semantic segmentation. Hands-on experience with training and evaluating deep learning models. Experience with vision-language models (VLMs, VLAs) and large language models (LLMs). Highly self-motivated and passionate about innovation in interdisciplinary settings. Strong Python programming skills and familiarity with open-source robotics tools. Robust experience developing and deploying software in Linux environments, following contemporary best practices. Desirable: 3+ years of hands-on experience in robotics. Experience with complex, highly articulated mobile robots in real-world settings. Proficiency in robotics simulation platforms (e.g. Gazebo, PyBullet). Practical experience with Time-of-Flight or RGB camera sensors. Dyson is an equal opportunity employer. We know that great minds don’t think alike, and it takes all kinds of minds to make our technology so unique. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and employment decisions are made without regard to race, colour, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, protected veteran status or other any other dimension of diversity.
