Manages a crew in general construction (utility, pipe, earthwork), asphalt, concrete, or bridge disciplines; maintaining the highest levels of safety and meeting or exceeding company and customer quality standards. Essential Functions Supervision Received: Works under general direction of the General Superintendent Supervision Given: Assigns and directs work of craft employees Leads a construction crew* Executes work schedules* Assists with determining manpower, materials and equipment requirements* Ensures resource availability* Provides weekly schedule updates* Circumvents and solves problems that may cause delays in completing work; escalates when necessary* Ensures work complies with technical specifications, drawings and schedules* May perform construction work on the project Supervises craft employees* Assigns and audits work of laborers, carpenters, operators and Teamsters* Submits and approves craft dailies and timecards, ensuring accuracy of information* Manages performance of employees; ensures that work meets customer and company expectations for quality and technical specifications* Resolves conflicts and labor relations issues; understands contract agreements with regard to scheduling and assigning work Communicates with co-workers and supervisors* Advises project manager or senior managers of problems, potential problems, schedule difficulties* Shares information about work plan with subordinates, peers, subcontractors* Collaborates with project control, estimating, schedule and equipment to keep project on schedule* Facilitates collaboration among work crews Promotes and maintains safe work environment.* Exhibits safe work behaviors; evaluates work area for hazards; eliminates or controls hazards; follows and enforces all safety policies* Wears all prescribed PPE* Leads daily safety huddles and safety training; follows safe work plans* Ensures subordinate employees are following safe work plan and exhibiting safe behaviors Travel is primarily local during business day; some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required. Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company’s core values, competencies, and skills. Education Qualifications Required High School or Equivalent or GED; work experience Experience Qualifications Required 5+ years of experience in heavy highway construction industry, including 1 year of supervision Preferred Prior experience in heavy highway construction Skills and Abilities Accountability Communication Decision Making/Decision Quality Ethics/Integrity Instills Trust Developing Others Drives Results Resourcefulness Union membership in good standing; or ability to achieve and maintain union membership Attainment of journeyman status (if union member) Working Conditions/Physical Demands The work environment described here is representative of those that experienced by an employee performing the essential functions of this job.* Continuous exposure to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites, including heights, moving vehicles, stopped traffic* Continuous exposure to equipment cabs, including computer controls, dials, handles, knobs, switches* Outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, precipitation, heat, humidity, dust, asphalt and/or concrete, dirt* Regular exposure to noise, including horns, mechanical equipment, heavy equipment, jackhammers* Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes and airborne particles* Exposure to indoor work environments including job trailers, field offices or asphalt plants/labs The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.* Climbs in and out of equipment, job trucks or trailers* Uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support while walking across jobsite without fatigue;* Uses good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination, with the ability to quickly move arms and legs, to operate equipment controls, hand tools, laptop or tablet* Possess excellent stamina to work between 8-12 hours per day About Milestone Contractors Milestone Contractors is a privately held, family-owned business headquartered in Indianapolis.
